Losing two out of three over the weekend to Cincinnati, and after dropping the first game here in Houston, the Cubs will look to Jon Lester to try to get the Cubs back in the win column. Lester has struggled of late though, giving up 12 runs in his last 8 and 1/3 innings pitched, and it doesn’t help that he will be facing one of the most potent lineups in all of Major League Baseball in this start.

Run production was down over two runs per game at Cincinnati over the weekend at just 3 runs per contest, which won’t get it done against this Houston team. Chicago gave up 7 runs per game over the weekend, which was significantly higher than their season average of 4.36. I imagine that number will rise even higher at the conclusion of this series.
Houston Astros
The Astros took two out of three from Boston over the weekend and continue to add to their lead in the AL West, which now sits at 7 games over the second place A’s. Corbin Martin will get the ball for his fourth start this year. He too has struggled in his last two starts, giving up 7 runs in 7 and 1/3 innings. The Cubs can put up runs in a hurry, so he will need to spot his pitches accordingly, or this game could get out of hand early.

The Astros were well below their season average of 5.18 runs per game in that trio of low scoring affairs against the Red Sox over the weekend. Houston averaged just 3 runs per game, while they gave up an average of 3.33 runs per game, which is about on par with their season average of 3.54 runs against per game on the year.
