After failing in their first chance to win the World Series, the Indians will now have the opportunity to do it in front of their home fans.
Cleveland will host Game 6 on Tuesday night, as the Cubs look to stave off elimination and force a Game 7.
The Cubs finally gave the Indians a taste of their own medicine.
Chicago called on Aroldis Chapman in the 7th inning to record an 8 out save. After dealing with Andrew Miller all series, the Cubs threw Miller’s old teammate at them and it couldn’t have worked out any better.
Chicago secured a 3-2 win and will now open as favorites here in Game 6 with Jake Arrieta on the hill.
Arrieta battled in Game 2 as he took a no hitter into the 6th inning. He did walk 3 while striking out 6, which certainly drove his pitch count up.
Chicago will insert OF Kyle Schwarber back into the lineup here in Game 6 as the DH.
With their first chance now out of the way, the Indians know they have a little pressure on them heading into Game 6.
A Game 7 wouldn’t be the most ideal situation for Cleveland, but the offense will certainly have to figure it out here in Game 6 for them.
After putting up a 7 spot, the Indians had just a pair of runs in the Game 5 loss and will need to produce more base runners against Arrieta here. Cleveland failed to string together hits against him Game 2, as they had no momentum all night.
The Indians will send out Josh Tomlin, who was extremely solid in Game 3. Tomlin went 4.2 innings of scoreless work, before Francona decided to turn things over to the bullpen.
Tomlin threw just 58 pitches, meaning he’ll certainly be well rested despite just 3 days in betwee starts.
He’ll likely have the same goal here, getting into the 5th while the Indians have the lead.
