Cleveland took it to the Cubs in Game 1 and will now look to capture both games at home as underdogs in Game 2 on Wednesday.
Due to rain in the forecast, Tuesday’s start time was pushed up to 7:08, in hopes of getting the game in without any stoppages.
Chicago had their chances in Game 1 as they had plenty of base runners to work with, but getting the big hit was the issue.
Chicago was shut out in Tuesday’s opener, as Corey Kluber, Andrew Miller, and Cody Allen were too much for the offense to overcome.
Cubs ace Jon Lester was victimized by 2 runs in the first with a little dribbler up the third base line with the bases loaded, along with an 0-2 hit by pitch to account for both runs. Lester allowed his final run of the evening on a Roberto Perez home run.
Chicago will hand the ball to Jake Arrieta, who is trying to right his postseason fortunes.
Arrieta has allowed 4 runs in each of his 3 postseason starts, but still feels like he is comfortable on the mound.
Kyle Schwarber will DH once again for Chicago, after going 1 for 3 with a double and 2 strikeouts in his first game back in almost 6 months.
The Indians posted their 4th shutout of this postseason, as Corey Kluber was magnificent once again.
Kluber pitched 6.0 shutout innings and did exactly what his job was in getting the ball to the back end of the bullpen.
Combined, Kluber, Miller, and Allen had 15 strikeouts of the Chicago Cubs hitters. However, they did put together some good at bats in Tuesday’s loss as they even found success off Miller with a couple hits, something teams haven’t been able to do this postseason.
The Indians will send out RH Trevor Bauer, who has had an interesting postseason to say the least.
Bauer lasted just 0.2 innings in his Game 3 start in Toronto has his pinky started leaking out blood in the Top of the 1st inning.
Bauer’s finger is supposedly better after the 8 day rest, but don’t be surprised if the Indians have a few pitchers on call in the bullpen just incase things start to go wrong.
