Something has to give here in the World Series. Two unlikely candidates find themselves in unfamiliar territory as the Cleveland Indians will hold home field advantage against the Chicago Cubs.
The Cubs sent their city into a frenzy on Saturday after knocking off Clayton Kershaw in Game 6 of the NLCS, while the Indians have been hanging out since last Wednesday when they clinched in Toronto.
Both teams have their own respective World Series drought, as both fan bases have suffered long enough without a World Series Title.
Who’s got the edge? Let’s find out.
2016 World Series Free Prediction: Offense
Teams can only hold down the Cubs lineup for so long.
Chicago has shown some struggles at times here in the 2016 postseason, but things have changed, especially with the long ball. Chicago has out homered their opponents 12-4 in the NL and have an edge on the Indians 11-5.
Chicago’s lineup is just so deep. You have to get through Dexter Fowler, Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo, and Ben Zobrist, only to run into the likes of Javy Baez and Addison Russell, who are both red hot.
There isn’t one guy you can even pitch around, as the next guy is even better.

The Indians lineup isn’t going to overpower anyone, thus the 11-5 disadvantage in the homerun count to the Cubs.
However, what this team does offer is a lot of depth, along with a lineup that can manufacture runs. Cleveland has pulled all the right strings when it comes to matching up.
We’ve seen Coco Crisp hit two key homeruns in clinching games, Carlos Santana and Mike Napoli are clicking, and even the bottom of the lineup is finding ways to get on base to set the table for Francisco Lindor and Jason Kipnis.
Cleveland will have to find a way to consistently move runners and even swipe bases when they get on base, as that plays a huge advantage into their hands.
Edge: Chicago Cubs.
Chicago’s deep lineup is just a lot to overcome. They can put up crooked numbers extremely quick and completely flip a game.
Cleveland will have to score and probably score a lot here in the World Series. They’ll have to do something they haven’t done much and put up crooked numbers themselves to compete here.
2016 World Series Free Prediction: Pitching
The Cubs rotation, like their lineup, is deep.
They’ll use Jon Lester, Jake Arrieta, Kyle Hendricks, and John Lackey all in some way here against Cleveland. This gives Chicago 4 valuable options that can certainly come out and pitch a shutout almost every time.
The issue for them may be their bullpen. Chapman has proved to be human this postseason while the rest of the Cubs bullpen is average. If their starters don’t last long and they are forced into some long relief work, the advantage will certainly go to Cleveland here.

For Cleveland, they are going to receive a big boost right off the bat. It’s unclear how the Tribe will use Danny Salazar, but the top of the rotation pitcher threw a 3.0 inning simulated game and will be on the roster.
He’ll add depth to Corey Kluber, Trevor Bauer and Josh Tomlin, along with ALCS hero Ryan Merritt who was thrown into the fire in Game 5 and pitched a gem in 4.1 innings of work.
Trevor Bauer’s finger is also a question. We all saw it leak during the ALCS and nobody is quite sure how it is healed.
As for the bullpen, it’s the clear reason why the Indians are here. Francona has shown no issue going to Andrew Miller, Bryan Shaw, and Cody Allen early in games. The three headed monster has been about as dominant as it can be this postseason.
Edge: Cleveland.
Andrew Miller has proven to be the best pitcher this postseason. Obviously Cleveland needs their starters not named Corey Kluber to get through at least 5.0 innings with minimal damage to have success.
With how they have pitched, including an all bullpen game in the ALCS, Cleveland certainly gets the edge here. Corey Kluber will have to set the tone in Game 1 for this pitching staff, as they feed off of him.
2016 World Series Free Prediction: Cubs vs. Indians
This is going to be a tough one for Cleveland here.
Chicago has all the momentum, the fans not only in Chicago, but around the country are on their side, and they weren’t the best team in baseball by a lot for no reason at all.
Cleveland has been underdogs all postseason and have proved everybody wrong thus far. They’ll certainly need some magic, along with a little luck.
The key for them will be turning it over to that bullpen with the lead. If they can continuously do that, the Tribe will have a lot of success here.
