The Cubs were playing a couple of tough teams over the last 6 games, but their inability to score has to be a worrying point for the Cubs management, as this team was only able to score 17 runs over that 6 game span.
The last loss the Cubs had was especially brutal, as they jumped out to a 7 run lead in the first, and somehow ended up losing by a score of 15-7, so the Cubs will come into this game with something to prove after that disaster.
The strength of this team has been clutch hitting and the pitching staff who ranks 13th overall in terms of the ERA, as the have given up 3.97 runs per 9 this season. Alec Mills will get the call to the mound here coming into the contest with a 5.11 ERA and a 3-1 record and he has been pretty decent as of late, so he may be able to have a good enough start here to put the Cubs in a position to win.
Cincinnati Reds
The Cincinnati Reds have had a brutal schedule recently, so the fact that they are still in and around the .500 mark is a testament to how solid this team actually is and this offense in particular will be very tough for the visitors to slow down.
Although this whole batting lineup is strong, there are still a couple of guys who stand out with Nick Castellanos and Jesse Winker both having incredible seasons hitting for plenty of power and both holding averages well in excess of .300.
Cincinnati will no doubt have the advantage on the hill this Friday, as they send Sonny Gray to the mound who has been injured for the last month or so, and will probably be on a pitch count, but gave up no runs in his rehab start, so I would expect to see the Red’s ace close to his best in this one.
