The Cubs have been a little bit down for the past few weeks but this trip to Cincinnati might be reinvigorating the team.
Not so much because of the competition but the bats seems to be coming alive.
The Reds are one of the worst teams in the Majors this season and are likely to be selling off the parts that they can shortly.

Kris Bryant is on fire right now.
The Cubs might run away with this thing to the point that it might be hard to give anyone serious MVP consideration but right now he is winning that race.

Like a true MVP he is picking it up as other members of the lineup have cooled – Dexter Fowler is out and Ben Zobrist is no longer among league leaders in hitting.
Kyle Hendricks has put up good numbers but continues to be the hard luck member of the staff.
He is the only starter that the team does not have a winning record when he is on the mound and you might want to consider that his home/road splits are telling you to back off him in this situation.
The Cubs have not scored more than 3 runs in all of his six losses. Even on a good team there is always one of those.
Cincinnati Reds
The Reds are bad and sinking fast. They can put up some runs still but their pitching is the worst in the league.
You have to wonder how much longer they can have a potent offense too as they have to be looking at ways to get rid of their veterans like Joey Votto, Jay Bruce and Brandon Phillips.
Basically any bat other than Adam Duvall, who has burst onto the scene.
Don’t feel bad if you don’t know who Cody Reed is.
This will be just his third Major League start and he has not exactly set the world on fire to this point.

The best thing he has done is show that he can strike out batter with 15 over 12 IP but keep in mind that was against San Diego and Houston.
He might be MLB ready but right now it is too early to tell.
