This will be it for Canada unless it can win and the Colombians beat the Dominican Republic.
Neither is likely to happen so I’m going to go ahead and say this is it.
Canada got a great start out of Nick Pivetta the other day and while there wasn’t one horrible appearance out of the bullpen, three runs in five innings against Colombia won’t get it done.
Now we’re on to the third starter against an American team that has the luxury of a deep pitching staff. Canada has to hope that the United States’ bullpen problems carry over from that ugly loss to the Dominican Republic.

I’m starting to question everything after Andrew Miller got lit up in the Dominican Republic’s comeback. He gave up home runs to Nelly Cruz and Starling Marte and his WBC ERA stopped at 54.00.
Danny Duffy gets the nod tonight. In a tournament where listed starters are before the teams arrive at the ballpark are rare, it’s a little bit of a power move to throw Duffy’s name out there as early as Jim Leyland did. I like it.
Leyland knows how tough Duffy is from years together in the AL Central. Canada won’t have any fun trying to hit his stuff. Look for something tidy, maybe even wire-to-wire from the Americans. It starts with the lefty.
