Jake Bennett gives Boston the better season-long numbers at 9-7 with a 3.69 ERA. Still, he enters after posting a 5.26 ERA over his last seven starts, so I am not counting on the Red Sox lefty to completely quiet Texas.
Neither starter needs to implode for this total to get there.
The Rangers have won three straight, and their offense has scored 17 runs during that streak. Boston has also produced four or more runs in six of its last nine games, giving this matchup scoring paths on both sides.
Globe Life Field itself is not the reason for this bet; the pitching matchup is. Gore’s recent inability to work deep can expose the Texas bullpen, while Bennett has been less trustworthy lately than his full-season ERA suggests. My MLB handicapping approach says both offenses get enough chances to push this one past the number, so OVER 8 is my play.
