Minnesota Twins
After an unexpected slow start to the season, the Twins are starting to find themselves and string together some victories. Minnesota has won eight of its last 12 games, but still finds itself ten games under .500 and 10.5 games out of first place in the AL Central.
Michael Pineda was rocked Tuesday for the Twins on the mound, surrendering five runs in three innings while striking just one batter, a season low. The Twins loss brought an end to the Orioles 14-game losing skid.
Kyle Garlick homered for the Twins Tuesday, as did Willians Astudillo. The Twins strung together ten hits but couldn’t dig themselves out of an early deficit.
Randy Dobnak makes his 10th start of the season for the Twins on Wednesday. He is 1-4 with one save, a 6.49 ERA, a 1.367 WHIP, six walks and 19 strikeouts over 26.1 innings of work this season. He allowed six runs in his last start against the Royals and has not been able to establish a rhythm all season.
For Dobnak, this is his first appearance against the Orioles in his career.
Baltimore Orioles
The Orioles started off the year playing just under .500 baseball, but the train has fallen off the tracks over the last few weeks. The O’s finally ended their losing streak at 14 games Tuesday, but still find themselves 17.5 games out of first in the division as June starts.
The Orioles tagged Michael Pineda early Tuesday, with Maikel Franco and Pedro Severino both going yard against the veteran right-hander. Bruce Zimmerman turned in 5.1 innings of solid pitching as well, striking out seven hitters and allowing just two runs.
Matt Harvey gets another start for the Orioles Wednesday as they try to take the series. Harvey is 3-6 with a 6.84 ERA and 42 strikeouts this season. He has not fared much better against Minnesota throughout his time in the big leagues either, owning a 1-1 record and 7.59 lifetime ERA against the Twins.
