The Braves will be in Milwaukee to take on the Brewers for game 2 of the National League Divisional Series. The first pitch is set for 5:07 ET on Saturday. This should be a good one, folks.
Max Fried will be the starting pitcher for the Braves and Brandon Woodruff gets the assignment for the Brewers. This is definitely an intriguing pitching matchup.
It has been some time since these teams last met.
Atlanta Braves
At the beginning of the year, the Braves were not living up to the lofty expectations that were given to them. However, as the year went on, they started playing like the team we knew they were.
2021 was the fourth year in a row that this club won the National League East. It looked like for a while that the Mets would win in, but they collapsed and the Braves Surged. Atlanta won this division with 88 wins.
Atlanta capped off their season by winning 2 games out of 3 from the Mets. In those games, the Braves scored 14 runs and allowed 9 runs.
In their last game of the year, no pitcher was used all that much. Charlie Morton started the game, but he only went 2.2 innings. After him, a total of 5 relievers were used.
Max Fried had a solid 2021 season. He went 14-7 with an ERA of 3.10. The Braves should feel very confident with this man on the bump.
The pitching for this team was not great at the beginning of the year. The bullpen really struggled and it was costing the team wins. However, as the year went on, the pitching got much better for them. Atlanta finished in the top ten in ERA.
The offense for this team is a very scary one. Even with their best player gone, they still were very productive. Overall, the Braves scored 4.91 runs per game which were the 8th best in the game.
Atlanta hit 239 home runs which were 3rd best in baseball.
Milwaukee Brewers
All year long, the Brewers played very well. At any given time, they were considered one of the best teams in baseball. Now we will see what they’ll do in the playoffs.
It was not a given that this team was going to win the National League Central easily when the Cardinals went on their long winning streak. In the end, they finished 95-67 and were 5 games ahead of St. Louis.
Milwaukee would have liked to finish off the season in a better way. They got swept by the Dodgers in 3 games. In those games, the Brewers only scored 12 runs and they allowed 26 runs. If they get past this series, I am sure Los Angeles is not a team they want to run into.
On the last game of the year, no pitcher was used for that long. A total of 8 were used and nobody went longer than 2 innings.
Despite having a losing record, Brandon Woodruff had a good year in 2021. He finished with an ERA of 2.61. He will have the tall task of slowing down that powerful Atlanta offense.
All year long, the pitching for this team was very impressive. They had an ERA of 3.48 which was 3rd best overall. The staff had a dominant trio that included Freddy Peralta, Corbin Burnes, and the aforementioned Brandon Woodruff.
The offense for this team was also quite productive. Christain Yelich did not have a great year and he was constantly battling injuries. Somebody on this club who really stepped up was Willy Adames. He was a great fit for Milwaukee.
Milwaukee hit 194 home runs which were 18th best in the MLB.

Atlanta Braves vs. Milwaukee Brewers MLB Prediction:
As strictly a baseball fan, this particular matchup really has me interested. For the second game in a row, we get to watch two of the better pitchers in the National League square off against each other. What else could you ask for?
Both of these teams are obviously very good, but I do feel the better team is Milwaukee. I feel that they have more depth in their bullpen and I also give the edge to their starters. This is no knock on the Braves. In fact, it would not shock me at all if Atlanta takes this game.
Just like with Morton vs. Burnes in game 1, Fried vs. Woodruff should not disappoint. I feel that Woodruff will pitch a very good game and the bullpen will close it down. I do not expect Milwaukee to crush him, but I do feel they can do enough against the talented Max Fried.
My play is the Brewers as home favorites.
