The Dodgers are looking up at the Giants and if they are going to get back into the race with their rival they cannot afford to waste series like this one.
They got things started right with a win in the opener on Friday night but nothing has come easy for this group this season.
They have to keep soldiering on and hope for San Francisco to cool.
Atlanta Braves
The Braves are the worst team in the National League this season.
Their only saving grace may be that the NL East is much more competitive than anyone could have projected making their ineptitude not so shocking.
This team just can’t score runs with the lineup they have, they are dead last in MLB in scoring, bating average, OPS and homers. That says it all.
Matt Wisler has been one of two Atlanta pitchers that have kept things respectful this season.
He has a 3.16 ERA through 10 starts and on any other club might have a .500 record. He has been pretty consistent too only once in those outings giving up more than 3ER.
The problem is what do you do with that data because the offense has been so terrible.
Los Angeles Dodgers
The Dodgers just can’t seem to catch a break this season.
The most recent setback was the placement of Yasiel Puig on the DL on Friday with a hamstring injury.
He was far from having a great season but he can carry the club offensively when he is on and is a defensive presence. Rookie Corey Seager erupted for three homers on Friday night.
They need someone to join Adrian Gonzalez as a consistent offensive threat and perhaps he is the guy. He has certainly not played like a rookie.
L.A. has a strong pitching staff but Scott Kazmir has been their least reliable regular starter thus far.
The peripherals look good in terms of strikeouts and hits allowed but he has had too many games where he has been hit really hard.
He might be comfortable in the NL now though as in his last 12 innings he has given up just one run with a 19/1 strikeout to walk ratio. Best of all no homers allowed. He is backed by a very good bullpen.

Backing the Braves this season is going to be a challenge as it will pretty much only be rationale when either Wisler or Julio Teheran is on the hill. On the road at Los Angeles there is no way this won’t be enticing when you see the payoff.
On the other hand the line on L.A. would be unplayable if anyone other than Kazmir was starting. This could definitely be a spot to back the Dodgers on the run line. I know their offense is not inspiring but they shouldn’t have to score too much to make that number a winner.

I’m always iffy to take an under when the line is set so low, but looking at these two pitchers against these two offenses I think we’re looking at least a too late. I I do like Seattle’s offense over Tampa’s, so I like the combo bet here with a relative even matchup on the mound.
