The defending world series champs welcome the National League cellar dweller into their home park for a weekend series.
The Royals have had a slow start, but should be licking their chops at a chance to get to face the rebuilding Braves.
Young gun Julio Teheran will square off against the veteran Edinson Volquez in this one.
The fact that there is actually a team in the MLB with a worse record than the Braves is an accomplishment unto itself. That’s how bad this team is.
Their offense has shown signs of historical ineptitude, most notably in the power department. Through 32 games, the Braves as a team have hit NINE home runs.
If they were to somehow maintain this pace, they would finish the season with just 45-46 dingers. To put that into perspective, 10 players came withing 5 home runs of that total on their own last season.
Freddie Freeman is the only real threat left on this team, but with no protection around him, pitchers are able to nibble at the corners, leaving him with little to hit.
Take your pick. Almost any offensive category you can think of and the Braves rank in the bottom 5 league wide.
It’s a shame as their trio of young starters (Teheran, Wisler and Blair) have all registered ERA’s under 3.50. Due to a complete lack of run support, the Braves really aren’t able to remain competitive in most games.
The Braves have typically fared well in inter-league play, with a .529 winning percentage, but those stats are hard to apply to this group. They are 1-3 in inter-league play this year.
On the plus side, they have been respectable on the road this season securing 6 of their 8 wins away from the state of Georgia.
Kansas City Royals
The Champs have had a slow start to their title defense season. After storming out of the gates last year, they enter this series hovering around .500. Fear not, Royals fans. A weekend date with the lowly Braves is just what the doctor ordered to start a nice little run.
After a breakout campaign that saw him finish 3rd in AL MVP voting behind Josh Donaldson and Mike Trout, Lorenzo Cain started off the season as sluggish as one could possibly imagine.
Recently though, he’s done everything in his power to remind people why he’s one of baseball’s most electrifying outfielders.
Over the last two weeks, the center fielder has hit a scorching .380 with 8 runs and 9 RBI, including a game this week that saw him tattoo three home runs off of Masahiro Tanaka.
Royals starter Edinson Volquez has been mostly solid this season, was downright awful in two of his last three outings. He allowed a combined 13 runs in under 10 innings against Cleveland and Los Angeles.
Despite these two implosions, he still sports a respectable 3.89 ERA on the season.
Volquez has dominated at Kaufmann stadium this season, pitching to a 1.37 ERA and striking out over a batter an inning.
Historically, the Royals have struggled in inter-league play only having won 45% of their contests. They are 2-3 so far this season.
Luckily, they’re facing a limp offense and they should have no problem opening up this series with a W tonight.

Free Atlanta Braves vs. Kansas City Royals MLB Prediction:
Like most Braves games, this shouldn’t be much of a contest. The Braves struggle enough to put runs on the board, but can they find a way to beat on of the AL’s best defenses and the defending World Series Champion.
