They’ve also found some late life, winning their final two games against the Yankees. Nolan Arenado delivered the big swing Sunday, crushing a grand slam in Arizona’s 8-4 victory.
Arizona still has something to chase, which makes a late-September trip to Coors considerably more interesting.
Colorado enters at 57-99 after dropping two of three against Seattle. The Rockies did rally for a 5-3 win Saturday before falling 2-1 in Sunday’s series finale.
The Diamondbacks have won six of the first 10 meetings this season.
Now Arizona gets three more at Coors before finishing the regular season in San Diego, while Colorado tries to avoid reaching 100 losses Tuesday night.

Freeland returned from the injured list last week against San Diego, allowing three runs and three homers over four innings.

Michael Soroka gives Arizona another advantage. He’s carrying a 3.45 ERA and 1.13 WHIP into Coors, while Kyle Freeland owns a 6.38 ERA and has allowed 27 home runs. Coors is not where I’d volunteer to solve that particular problem.
Arizona needs wins, and Freeland has spent far too much of this season giving hitters opportunities.
Colorado can still make things annoying. Hunter Goodman has 39 homers, and the Rockies are considerably more dangerous offensively at altitude.
Still, Arizona owns a 6-4 edge in the season series and has the stronger starter Tuesday. The Rockies have also lost eight of their last 10, including Sunday’s 2-1 loss to Seattle.
I don’t love laying road run lines for entertainment purposes. Here, though, the pitching gap and Arizona’s urgency are enough to get me there.
