Mariners 2020 Season Preview
Ready to check out our 2020 Seattle Mariners predictions? The Mariners may not mind quite as much as other teams if they just don’t play any games in 2020. They are not going to win many games but at least the rebuild is under way.
MLB Mariners Predictions & Handicapping Insight
I suppose Baltimore is a pretty good bet to finish last in the American League East but Seattle may be nearly as likely to finish last in its division, within the AL.

The AL West is shaping up to be pretty tough this season and Seattle figures to be a doormat.
2020 MLB Team Previews – Seattle Mariners

- Taijuan Walker
- Wei-Yin Chen
- Carl Edwards Jr.
Taijuan Walker was a former first round pick of the Mariners and was consistently ranked as one of the franchise’s best prospects for the subsequent seasons.
He flashed some ability at the big league level but never quite blossomed like some expected he would and the Mariners made a disaster trade, sending him and Ketel Marte, who was the second guy in the deal but turned into an All-Star last season, for Jean Segura and Mitch Haniger (he did have one all star season, but injuries are mounting up on him).
At least they got Walker back this offseason, for $2 million on a 1-year deal.
- Felix Hernandez
Hernandez posted his third consecutive season with an ERA worse than league-average in 2020. His WHIP continued to deteriorate but his strikeout and walk numbers held steady.
He’s now in Atlanta, where is role has yet to be determined but you know Seattle fans will continue to root for the King in 2020, perhaps as a valuable member of a winning club.
2020 Seattle Mariners Predictions: Projected Lineup:
- Shed Long 2B
- JP Crawford SS
- Kyle Seager 3B
- Tom Murphy C
- Dan Vogelbach DH
- Kyle Lewis OF
- Evan White 1B
- Jake Fraley OF
- Mallex Smith OF
There aren’t many recognizable names in this lineup. Tom Murphy isn’t young but he hit 18 home runs in 260 at-bats, which were easily a career-high.
Dan Vogelbach, projected to hit behind Murphy, who will provide right-handed power in-between the two lefties, has big power but he strikes out a lot, too.
It’s a young and highly unproven outfield but it’s better than having old veterans out there that weren’t going to take Seattle to the postseason, or anywhere close, anyway.
2020 Seattle Mariners Predictions: Projected Rotation:
- Marco Gonzales
- Yusei Kikuchi
- Justus Sheffield
- Kendall Graveman
- Taijuan Walker
- Nick Margevicius
Justus Sheffield was a first round pick as a high-schooler in 2014 but he has already played for three organizations and wasn’t effective in seven starts for the M’s last season. He’ll get another chance this season.
The guy I like after the first two starters in this rotation, who are also the only two proven commodities, is Kendall Graveman.
He didn’t pitch in 2019 after getting hurt early in 2018 and having season-ending surgery. He could well be damaged goods but if he does recover, he will feature a nifty little sinking fastball that gets a lot of ground balls.
He’s a potential target off the scrap heap, if your desperate in seasonal fantasy baseball or a sleeper in daily formats.
2020 Seattle Mariners Predictions: Projected Closer:
- Yoshihisa Hirano
Hirano is a new acquisition after spending his first two seasons in the States as a member of the Diamondbacks. He posted an ERA+ of 173 as a rookie but regressed as a sophomore. At least he’s durable, having thrown about 120 innings in his first two seasons as a Major League reliever.
2020 Seattle Mariners Predictions: 57 wins and last in the AL West (Bet Now at any of our reviewed MLB Sportsbooks!)
The Orioles will be horrendous again and people are talking like the Tigers may be the worst team in the American League.
But let me tell you, Seattle is going to give both of those teams a run. The Mariners are going to come close to losing twice as many as they win.
