And no team has longer odds in the pennant or World Series futures market, either. A $100 bet on the Marlins to take home their franchise’s third World Series would net a decent year’s salary.
2020 MLB Team Previews – Miami Marlins
- Marlins 2020 National League East Odds: +20000
- Marlins 2020 National League Odds: +35000
- Marlins 2020 World Series Odds: +75000
Key Additions:
- Corey Dickerson
- Matt Kemp
- Jonathan Villar
Miami’s projected lineup this season is strangely veteran. Corey Dickerson will hit in the middle and he’s shown the ability to produce with the stick, though his durability questions have him better served to DH in the American League.
Jonathan Villar hit a career-high 28 home runs for Baltimore last season but he’ll likely see a drop-off because of the difference in ballparks alone. He will continue to run at will and probably steal another 40 bases, if he stays healthy.
Matt Kemp is an interesting name but reports are he’s a long shot to just make the Opening Day roster at this point. He may well start the season in the minors.
Key Losses:
- Neil Walker
- Martin Prado
- Curtis Granderson
- Jarlin Garcia
Neil Walker stayed productive enough in 2019 that he earned himself a chance to play for the Philadelphia Phillies in 2020.
Curtis Granderson’s career, however, may be over. He remains a free agent here in early April. He remains a strong clubhouse presence but his bat has slowed down over the years.
Jarlin “the Marlin” Garcia takes his big arm to San Francisco, where he will try to carve out a role for himself.
2020 Miami Marlins Predictions: Projected Lineup:
- Jonathan Villar OF
- Brian Anderson 3B
- Corey Dickerson OF
- Jesus Aguilar 1B
- Garrett Cooper OF
- Jorge Alfaro C
- Isan Diaz 2B
- Miguel Rojas SS
Most of the names at the top of the order are veterans we mostly know about who are more or less just biding the Marlins’ time until more of the young crop is ready.
Isan Diaz played in about 50 games last season as a 23-year-old. The former second round pick in 2014 hit five home runs but only hit .173 and finished with 59 strikeouts compared to 19 walks.
Miguel Rojas has already been in Miami for five full seasons but he enters 2020 as the projected starter. He’s had just one season in his career with an above-average OPS and he only came to the plate 300 times the.
2020 Miami Marlins Predictions: Projected Rotation:
- Caleb Smith
- Sandy Alcantara
- Jose Urena
- Pablo Lopez
- Jordan Yamamoto
Last season, Sandy Alcantara finished with a 109 ERA+, which was tops on the Marlins’ staff. Of course, he still lost 14 games.
Caleb Smith was close to league-average, in terms of ERA, too, and came close to finishing .500 in a full season’s workload.
The Marlins may not have an ace, at least yet, but they do have five decent enough starting pitchers who may make this season a success, at least based on the low expectations Vegas has set.
Pablo Lopez, Jose Urena and Jordan Yamamoto will match up with some opponents’ end-of-the-rotation starters and could pick up some wins for Miami there.
2020 Miami Marlins Predictions: Projected Closer:
- Brandon Kintzler
Brandon Kintzler is a new acquisition from Chicago, where he wasn’t closing games in 2019 but did finish with a 166 ERA+ in nearly 60 innings.
He saved 28 games up until the Trade Deadline for Minnesota back in 2017, though.
2020 Miami Marlins Predictions: 62 Wins and last in the NL East (Bet Now at any of our reviewed MLB Sportsbooks!)
This prediction actually has the Marlins going over the season win total. That starting pitching may be just good enough to avoid another season where the 100th loss comes earlier in September or even in late August.
Otherwise, Miami is not a consideration in any other future markets.
