MLB Baseball Futures Odds – 2019 NL East Predictions
Looking for 2019 NL East Predictions? A busy offseason filled with meaningful transactions has led many MLB experts to label the NL East as baseball’s most competitive division. In this loaded field, each team outside of Miami holds legitimate playoff hopes.
NL East Predictions & Handicapping Insight
Though after completing the NL’s biggest winter makeover, by acquiring Bryce Harper and J.T. Realmunto, Philadelphia is expected to surpass Atlanta for the East’s crown. However, don’t expect Atlanta and its overachieving core -or the improved Mets and stacked Nationals- to concede an inch to Philadelphia’s aggressive, expensive revamp.
Atlanta Braves Predictions
Braves NL East Division Odds: +250
Braves Win Total Odds: 86.5
Last season, led by Freddie Freeman and 2018 NL Rookie of the Year Ronald Acuna, Atlanta shocked oddsmakers to win 90 games and capture the 18-19 NL East title. And along the way quality pitching bolstered the Braves’ young, live bats. Starting RHP Mike Foltynewicz become a first time All Star while compiling a 13-9 record. Meanwhile Julio Tehran, lefty Sean Newcomb and Anibal Sanchez each offered strong campaigns.
Ultimately, however, the NL’s surprise story ended 3-1 during NLDS play vs. the National League champion Los Angeles Dodgers. But the rising Braves left their mark and served notice that they will contend well into the next decade.

Due to stark progression by their divisional foes oddsmakers are betting against Atlanta repeating as NL East champion. In a drastically improved division, where the Braves had little winter turnover, Vegas has Atlanta regressing by 3.5 wins.
This drop may be overcome if Acuna and his rising teammates take the next step while veterans Freeman and Markakis produce. But, bluntly, even at their best, it will be a challenge for Atlanta to outpace Philadelphia and Washington.
Atlanta’s only notable offseason move involved Brian MCCann returning to replace departed C Kurt Suzuki. Anibal Sanchez also parted with Atlanta this winter.
To quantifty the NL East’s ascent the Braves are now either third or fourth best in a division they stole last fall.
Miami Marlins NL East Predictions
Marlins NL East Division Odds: +20000
Marlins Win Total Odds: 63.5
As stated, Miami sits as an outlier in an uber competitive scrum. The Marlins’ biggest offseason accomplishment came when they aided Philadelphia’s cause by gifting the Phillies with All Star catcher J.T. Realmunto.
The perpetually rebuilding Marlins added faded former RBI leader Curtis Granderson and Sergio Romo as guidance figures for a fledgling roster.
Youngster Derek Brinson will lead what should become Major League Baseball’s worst team by season’s end.
Keep a close eye on Miami if you’re into prospect watching because this roster is rife with projects. Also, consider taking the under on Miami’s projected 63.5 win total.

New York Mets NL East Predictions
Mets NL East Division Odds: +360
Mets Win Total Odds: 85.5
Overshadowed by Philadelphia’s massive haul, New York still ranks among the NL’s most improved units. Vegas certainly thinks so after spotting the Mets 8.5 extra wins this season compared with the crew’s blasé 77-85 2018 finish.
Standouts Robinson Cano, Edwin Diaz and solid pieces Jed Lowrie and Keon Broxton join an already capable cast which looks to take major steps forward in 2019.
Much of that potential success will hinge on the rebuilt bullpen’s ability to mesh, and the health of Jacob DeGrom and Michael Conforto. Last season, DeGrom led a top heavy rotation with a minuscule 1.7 ERA. Conforto led the Mets with 28 home runs and 82 RBI’s.
If New York’s blend of new faces and returning talent can remain focused, the Mets could become the NL East’s darkhorse.
Philadelphia Phillies NL East Predictions
Phillies NL East Division Odds: +175
Phillies Win Total Odds: 89.5
After breaking the bank to acquire superstar Bryce Harper from Washington, the Phillies have presumably leapt from mediocre to NL’s most improved. So much so, many outlets are going over Vegas’ official 89.5 win total for the fightin’ Phills. And while Harper is the big-name get, Andrew McCutchen and J.T. Realmuto lend a dynamic element to this Philadelphia cast.
On paper the Phillies’ solid pitching, excellent fielding and live bats can vie with any MLB squad in the regular season or playoffs. The only question mark surrounding this group is chemistry: Simply, can those lofty paper stats play out in real time in a real tough division?
With those questions and more, Philadelphia is this season’s NL East team to watch —and perhaps the MLB’s team to watch.
Washington Nationals NL East Predictions
Nationals NL East Division Odds: +250
Nationals Win Total Odds: 88.5
To clearly illustrate just how much talent resides in the NL East, as if it isn’t now blatantly obvious, veteran SI baseball pundit Ben Reiter thinks Washington will represent the NL in the World Series this fall.
That’s without Bryce Harper.
And even minus Harper, Washington’s depth chart and bullpen shines from top to bottom. Names such as Juan Soto, Anthony Rendon, Bryan Dozier, and Max Scherzer make Washington nearly impossible to pick against in this crowded NL East race. Though, Philadelphia’s rise makes it possible.
If Washington doesn’t win the division, it will likely earn wildcard playoff honors.

As stated, reigning NL East champion Atlanta has an uphill climb to defend its crown in baseball’s most exciting division. Meanwhile, expect Philadelphia and Washington to battle all season for top honors —and for each to appear in this fall’s NL playoffs.
Finally, consider going under on Atlanta and Miami’s win totals. Consider going over on the Mets’ win total.
