Brewers 2018 Season Preview
Ready to check out our 2018 Milwaukee Brewers predictions? The Milwaukee Brewers were a fun story last year as they led the NL Central for most of the way before they stumbled and the Chicago Cubs surged to take the NL Central.
MLB Brewers Predictions & Handicapping Insight
The Brewers will look to keep and carry some of those good vibes from last year into this year. And I believe they will. The Brewers have a good chance at winning the NL Central with some big additions this offseason.
2018 MLB Team Previews – Milwaukee Brewers
- National League Central +400
- National League +1600
- World Series +3300
Key Additions:
- OF Christian Yelich
- OF Lorenzo Cain
- RP Matt Albers
- SP Jhoulys Chacin
- SP Yovani Gallardo
- RP Boone Logan
Christian Yelich and Lorenzo Cain are two huge additions for the Brewers. Yelich and Cain bring big bats into their lineup and most importantly bring some gold gloves in the outfield.
They will save some runs which will be the difference in winning an extra couple of games this upcoming season.

Matt Albers and Boone Logan are quality arms in the bullpen and Jhoulys Chacin and Yovani Gallardo will fill out the bottom part of the rotation.
Key Losses:
- 2B Neil Walker
- RP Anthony Swarzak
- SP Matt Garza
All in all, the Brewers didn’t lose much in the offseason and Neil Walker is still currently available. So, he could potentially come back to the Brewers.
Brewers Predictions: Projected Lineup:
- CF Lorenzo Cain
- LF Christian Yelich
- 3B Travis Shaw
- RF Ryan Braun
- 1B Eric Thames
- C Stephen Vogt
- SS Orlando Arcia
- 2B Jonathan Villar
It may not be a sexy, casual fan friendly lineup, but this is a rock solid lineup from top to bottom. The middle of the order can go deep at anytime and the top and bottom can provide power as well.
In fact, it wouldn’t be a shock to see Yelich hit 30 home runs this season. And, if I may be so bold, I would say Christian Yelich is a sleeper MVP candidate.

I’m sure you can find some very long odds on that and that would be a very strong value pick.
Ryan Braun only hit .268 and 17 home runs. If he can stay healthy and have a typical Braun year, that will only boost the Brewers even more.
Travis Shaw and Eric Thames will and down in the bottom of the order Arcia and Villar will provide some speed.
This is a lineup that can do a little bit of everything and this is a team that will compete in the NL Central.
Let’s also not undersell the importance of defense. The bugaboo last year was the Brewers were one of the worst defensive teams in the majors and they have significantly improved that in the outfield.
Yelich and Cain are two of the best defensive outfielders in the game and will steal would be base hits.
Brewers Predictions: Projected Rotation:
- RHP Chase Anderson
- RHP Zach Davies
- RHP Jhoulys Chacin
- RHP Yovani Gallardo
- RHP Junior Guerra
This isn’t the best starting rotation in baseball, but compared to their in-division rivals they kind of hold their own. Chase Anderson had a good year, and more than likely, that was an outlier of a year. I would expect that ERA to rise this year.
Zach Davies isn’t somewhere who will wow you, but he’s been solid the last couple of years. Jhoulys Chacin is another veteran pitcher who goes out there and eats some innings.
Yovani Gallardo, Junior Guerra, Brent Suter, Wade Miley, Jimmy Nelson, and Brandon Woodruff all will be competing for time in the rotation. And no one will knock your socks off, but there all in that same mold of Chacin.
They’ll go out there and throw five, six innings and give up three runs.
Brewers Predictions: Projected Closer:
- RH Corey Knebel
A big reason for the successful season last year was because Corey Knebel was able to shut things down in the ninth inning last year. The Brewers will need Knebel to do what he did last year.
2018 Milwaukee Brewers Prediction:
I like the Brewers this season. I like the Brewers to make the playoffs and I think them winning the division isn’t a bad bet. In my eyes, I’m personally not crazy about the Chicago Cubs this year.
I believe they will most definitely compete and be in the thick of things, but there’s something about them that just doesn’t excite.
They may sort of be the Seattle Seahawks of baseball this season. On paper, they look good to easily win the division, but for various reasons it just doesn’t click this season.

The Brewers have good value to win the division and while I don’t think they’ll actually win the pennant or world series, I believe a bet on them gives you some nice hedge equity moving forward if they do end up making the postseason.
