MLB Predictions & Handicapping Insight – AL Cy Young
I can’t go through all the AL Cy Young candidates but I will go through some of the favorites, and some of the dark horses you should keep an eye on.
MLB AL Cy Young Futures Odds: Chris Sale +350
It’s no surprise to see Chris Sale as the favorite to win the American League Cy Young award this year. He finished last year in 5th place in the voting for the Cy Young, and 16th place for the AL MVP.
He finished last year with a record of 17-10 and a 3.34 ERA. This off-season Chris Sale was traded to the Boston Red Sox. It will be really interesting to see if he gets lost in the Red Sox rotation, and that might actually hurt his chances to win the Cy Young.
When he was with the White Sox he was the true ace, but with the Red Sox they have a few aces on their staff.
MLB AL Cy Young Futures Odds: Corey Kluber +500
Corey Kluber already has one AL Cy Young award under his belt and looks to win another this season for the Cleveland Indians. He actually had pretty similar stats last year to 2014 when he won the Cy Young, but their was just too many great pitchers last year for him to win again.

He finished last year third place in the Cy Young voting. To win the Cy Young this year, I think he is going to need 19 or more wins, and 250 or more strikeouts.
MLB AL Cy Young Futures Odds: Justin Verlander +1000
Justin Verlander comes into this season having been the runner up last year for the Cy Young award, and some people like his Wife Kate Upton were not happy he didn’t win it last year.
Last year Verlander was hurt by the lack of run support he received when he was on the mound. He only finished with a record of 16-9 but had 2nd most strikeouts of his career with 254.
MLB AL Cy Young Futures Odds: David Price +1600
I am surprised to see David Price with the 8th best odds to win the American League. He is expected to be sidelined till the beginning of May with an arm injury.

Those couple starts might be the difference between him winning the Cy Young and only being in the top 10.
MLB AL Cy Young Futures Odds: Felix Hernandez +2000
Felix Hernandez might be my favorite for someone who is in the middle of pack in terms of their odds. It might be a good year to bet on him because his odds are lower.
He had a down season last year and was fighting an injury for part of the season. Last year was the first year in five years he didn’t finish in the top eight of Cy Young voting.
MLB AL Cy Young Futures Odds: Aroldis Chapman +6600
Only nine Cy Young awards have been given to a closer, with the last one being Éric Gagné in 2003. The last American League closer to win the award was Dennis Eckersley in 1992, so it would be an uphill climb for Aroldis Chapman to do it.
But if there was a closer to do it, it would be Aroldis Chapman. In 2016 he appeared in 59 games, getting the save in 36 of those. It would be an uphill climb for Chapman to get it, but if he could be as dominate as last year and get over 40 saves, he would have a shot.
MLB AL Cy Young Futures Odds: Michael Pineda +6600
Michael Pineda had a really rough year last year, but is young and has the stuff to be a dark horse in this Cy Young race.

To win the award he needs to win more games, which means he needs to get more control over his pitches. At times lost year he had a lot of control issues.
