Let’s face it folks, the National League East looks like a two-team race – the Marlins, the Phillies and the Braves don’t have the rosters to compete with the likes of the Mets and the Nationals this year.
From top to bottom, the two favorites should run away with the division and be competitive all season long.
With that in mind let’s break down what used to be one of the most competitive Divisions in MLB and project where each will end up in the standings.
New York Mets NL East Predictions
Mets Division Odds: -110
Mets Win Total Odds: 88
We have seen it before and we are likely to see it again in 2016 – superior pitching and an average offense can get it done in MLB.
It doesn’t matter who the Mets will trot out as their fourth starter – RHP Jacob deGrom, RHP Matt Harvey and RHP Noah Syndegaard are an absolutely elite top 3. There are two, maybe three teams that can match that level of talent in their rotation.
As far as hitting goes Travis d’Arnaud, Yoenis Cespedes, Neil Walker, Michael Conforto, David Wright, Curtis Granderson, and Lucas Duda are respectable are good enough to make some serious noise this year.
One could argue that the batting order is a little dated but that argument doesn’t hold a lot of weight with me.

Simply put the Mets are the team to beat for sure. The trend of solid pitching and OK offenses has really come to light recently.
With the arms the Mets can throw out I expect them to run away with the East.
Washington Nationals NL East Predictions
Nationals Division Odds: +110
Nationals Win Total Odds: 87
It wasn’t that long ago the Nats were favorites to win the World Series but after a tumultuous 2015 and a Manager change they are being overlooked somewhat.
All Stars Stephen Strasburg and Bryce Harper could carry this team all by themselves and new Manager Dusty Baker should be able to calm what was a dysfunctional locker room.

Max Scherzer, Stephen Strasburg and Gio Gonzalez are a solid rotation and the health of Anthony Rendon, Ryan Zimmerman and Jayson Werth could point to this team taking the next step.
Washington is a solid team – nobody would be overly surprised to see them win the NL East. All it takes is an injury or two to a few of the Mets Studs and the Nats could replace them as Champs of the Division.
But on paper they still seem to be a piece or two behind the reigning champs.
The Nats finish second in the East and fail to get a Wild card spot.
Miami Marlins NL East Predictions
Marlins Division Odds: +600
Marlins Win Total Odds: 80 ½
Don Mattingly steps in as Manager for a team that definitely has some pieces in place but has a ton of holes as well. Jose Fernandez is a legitimate ace and a healthy Giancarlo Stanton is one of baseball’s best.
A.J. Ramos is a decent closer for sure and while Wei-Yin Chen may prove to be a quality #2 starter.
But what do the Marlins have after that? Exactly!
Atlanta Braves NL East Predictions
Braves Division Odds: +2500
Braves Win Total Odds: 65
The Braves have free-fallen from serious contender to what looks like one of the worst teams in the NL on paper! Seriously – what happened? Freddie Freeman is about the only notable offensive threat!
[dfads params=’groups=213&limit=1&return_javascript=1′]
About the only good news for the Braves is that there is one team worse within their own Division and that is….
Philadelphia Phillies NL East Predictions
Phillies Division Odds: +3300
Phillies Win Total Odds: 66 ½
Losers of 99 games last year did nothing to improve themselves this past offseason. I fact they traded their star closer for prospects that will take some time to develop.
Third baseman Maikel Franco and starting pitcher Aaron Nola are nice young pieces but they have absolutely nobody behind them heading into 2016. Another last place finish and a 100+ loss season is on the horizon – sorry Phillies fans!
