Wednesday, December 21st, the Los Angeles Lakers and Sacramento Kings meet for the second of four scheduled matches this season. Sacramento will also host on January 7th while the Lakers host the final meeting on January 18th.
Both teams last played Monday with the shorthanded Lakers getting routed 104-130 by the Suns while the Kings fell prey to the trap game losing 119-125 to the Hornets.
All-time the Lakers have the advantage of winning 280 of 442 matches. Last season the teams played four times each winning twice.

Los Angeles Lakers
Things are not ideal for the Lake Show with the news Anthony Davis will miss at least a month with a foot injury. Davis began the season stating his intention to play all 82 contests with most pundits responding by rolling their eyes.
Why? It’s not meant to be shade for the big man who was averaging a double-double of 27.4 points and 12.1 rebounds and had been on a tear of late.
Rather it’s his injury history and inability to stay on the court. His high mark of 75 games was achieved in 2016-17 and 2017-18 with the COVID-paused bubble championship season the next closest.
But in the last two years, he’s missed 50 percent of the season (36 and 42 games). Perhaps I’m reading too much into the lack of disclosure but it reads like the Lakers are hiding the seriousness of his injury.
They’ve positioned it as needing to gauge the severity of the injury and get alternative medical insights, but even if he only misses a month the 13-17 Lakers who were talking trades a week ago to bolster their depth have likely changed their strategy given this news.
LA allows opponents to score an average of 116.7 points per game ranking 26th. Their opponents shoot 46.6% from the field (14th) and 34.6% from behind the arc (8th).
The Lakers score 115.1 points per game (11th) while shooting 47.6 percent from the field and 32.8 percent from the perimeter ranking 11th and 27th respectively.
James (ankle), Westbrook (foot), and Austin Reaves (ankle) are questionable. Davis (foot), Juan Toscano-Anderson (ankle), and Wenyen Gabriel (shoulder) are out indefinitely.
Sacramento Kings
The Kings got caught in the trap game and in fairness, the Hornets had been close in a few recent matches and were due to end the losing streak.
Through his 26 games, De’Aaron Fox is averaging 23.2 points, 5.0 rebounds, 5.6 assists, and 1.0 steals per game.
He’s registering career-best efficiency shooting 49.7 percent from the field on 17.2 attempts, 35.0 percent from the perimeter on 5.3 attempts, and 79.7 percent from the stripe on 5.3 attempts.
Offensively, the Kings are among the very best in the association with the second-best scoring output averaging 117.8 points per game.
Similarly, they perform well in the proficiency areas ranking fourth-best for field goal percentage registering 48.7% while they rank a respectable 15th for perimeter percentage shooting 35.6% from deep.
Sacramento ranks 22nd in opponent scoring allowing 115.8 points per game while foes shoot 48.2% from the field and 36.6% from the perimeter ranking 26th and 23rd respectively.

LeBron James and Russell Westbrook sat in the blowout loss to the Suns but the reality is without AD it’s going to be a tough slog. At a minimum, they’ll need role players to play like stars and at worst they need the almost 38-year-old LeBron to channel his prime.
And that’s just to stay close to the pack because without AD the defense is average.
This is the second of a six-game homestand for the Kings who could use some home cooking given their recent minor slippage (3-4). Mike Brown needs to take advantage of being home to get his crew in for practices focusing entirely on defense.
Injury uncertainty has me leaning toward the Kings’ rebounding the question is whether they can cover the spread, but I’ll roll the dice and say yes.
