Here’s why I’m backing an UNDER bet below in my Sooners Bulldogs free pick & gambling prediction for this matchup.
Sooners vs. Bulldogs Gameday
The Oklahoma Sooners head to Athens Saturday for their first-ever visit to Sanford Stadium and only the second meeting between these programs. Kickoff is set for 3:30 PM ET on ESPN, with No. 2 Georgia hosting an OU team ranked No. 24 in the Coaches Poll.
Oklahoma enters 2-1 after beating New Mexico 14-6 last Saturday. The Sooners opened with a 51-0 win over UTEP before a 17-10 road loss at Michigan, so this will be their second crack at winning away from Norman.
Athens is not exactly the easier version of that assignment.
OU already tried winning at the Big House; apparently the backup plan was to give Sanford Stadium a shot.
Georgia is 3-0 and already 1-0 in SEC play. UGA opened with blowouts of Tennessee State and Western Kentucky before handling Arkansas 45-17 on the road, piling up 254 rushing yards in the process.
The Bulldogs have scored 178 points in three games.

The only previous meeting remains the 2018 Rose Bowl, when Georgia survived Oklahoma 54-48 in double overtime. Subtle little introduction between programs.
Oklahoma Sooners vs. Georgia Bulldogs Odds & Last 5
Georgia is a two-touchdown favorite, with the Bulldogs laying 14 and sitting around -595 on the moneyline. OU is approximately +440 to win outright, while the total has settled at 43.5.
The Sooners have allowed only 23 points through three games. After blanking UTEP, OU held Michigan to 17 and New Mexico to six, giving the defense a pretty clear identity heading into SEC play.
The offense has been considerably less convincing since Week 1.
Oklahoma scored only 24 points combined against Michigan and New Mexico. Georgia, meanwhile, has scored at least 45 in every game and followed two home blowouts by putting 45 on Arkansas in its SEC opener.
UGA has yet to play a game decided by fewer than 28 points.
Bulldogs Stats
Georgia’s offense has been ridiculous through three games, scoring 178 points while averaging better than 59 per Saturday. Gunner Stockton has thrown for 583 yards and nine touchdowns without an interception, completing 38 of 45 passes along the way.
Apparently incompletions have become optional in Athens.
Nate Frazier leads the ground game with 202 yards and five touchdowns. Stockton has provided another dimension himself, rushing for a career-high 97 yards at Arkansas while breaking a 62-yarder.
UGA can beat you through the air or on the ground, which is a mildly inconvenient menu for opposing defenses.
The Dawgs ran for 254 yards and four touchdowns against Arkansas. Chauncey Bowens scored three times, while Stockton completed 10 of 13 passes for 147 yards and another score, giving Georgia plenty of ways to move the chains without living dangerously.
Defensively, Georgia has surrendered only 40 points.
The Bulldogs have eight sacks and have been particularly opportunistic, recovering seven fumbles through three games. That matters against an OU offense facing its toughest defensive assignment yet.
Georgia also has a few injury situations to monitor. Isiah Canion left the Arkansas game during the opening series, while the Bulldogs continue to work around some early-season absences without seeing much effect on the scoreboard.

Sooners Stats
OU has scored 75 points through three games, although 51 of those came in the opener against UTEP. The Sooners have produced 658 passing yards and 333 on the ground.
John Mateer has thrown for 652 yards with six touchdowns and three interceptions. Isaiah Sategna III leads the receiving corps with 186 yards and two scores, while Lloyd Avant has rushed for 141 yards.
The offense hasn’t traveled nearly as smoothly.
Oklahoma managed 10 points at Michigan and followed that with 14 against New Mexico. Mateer gives the Sooners enough mobility and arm talent to extend plays, but OU can’t afford to repeatedly put its defense back on the field with short possessions in Athens.
The defense has given Brent Venables considerably less to complain about.
Oklahoma has allowed only 23 points and recorded 12 sacks through three games, creating the kind of pressure that gives the Sooners at least a fighting chance against UGA’s offense. The front has been the most reliable part of this team so far.
Trell Harris remains unavailable with a back injury, taking another option out of Mateer’s receiving group.
Sooners vs. Bulldogs QB Matchup
Gunner Stockton couldn’t have been much more efficient through Georgia’s first three games. He’s completed 84.4% of his passes for 583 yards, nine touchdowns and zero interceptions.
That’s nine touchdown passes against seven incompletions.
Stockton also reminded Arkansas that he’s perfectly capable of leaving the pocket. His 97 rushing yards led Georgia last week, and that dual-threat element gives OU’s aggressive front one more problem to account for.
John Mateer’s numbers haven’t been nearly as spotless.
The Sooners starter has completed 45 of 75 passes for 652 yards, six touchdowns and three interceptions. He’s been asked to carry considerably more of the offensive burden, especially with Oklahoma struggling to establish consistent production on the ground.
The matchup puts two very different quarterbacks in two very different situations. Stockton gets the protection of Georgia’s running game and a deep supporting cast, while Mateer heads into Sanford Stadium knowing OU may need him to manufacture offense when the easy yards disappear.

Ryan Puglisi has handled Georgia’s backup work, throwing for 191 yards and two touchdowns without an interception. Whitt Newbauer remains behind Mateer for Oklahoma and has seen only minimal action.
Neither backup should matter Saturday if the starters stay upright.
Stockton has been ruthlessly efficient; Mateer has been asked to create.
That contrast could determine whether OU can keep this game uncomfortable deep into the afternoon.
Oklahoma Sooners vs. Georgia Bulldogs bottom line: OU brings a defense capable of making Georgia work harder than it has through three weeks, but the Sooners need Mateer and the offense to survive long enough for that defense to matter at Sanford Stadium.

Sooners Bulldogs Free Pick: Under 43.5
Here is my Sooners Bulldogs free pick: I’m taking Under 43.5. This number doesn’t leave much room for offensive fireworks, but I’m comfortable with that when OU has already shown it can drag a game into the mud and Georgia doesn’t need a track meet to control one.
The Dawgs should be able to lean on the ground game, shorten possessions and avoid asking Gunner Stockton to force throws against an Oklahoma defense that has been excellent at creating pressure.
OU needs ugly to have a chance in Athens, and ugly works perfectly fine for an under ticket.
My concern is whether the Sooners can contribute enough points to push this game over. John Mateer has made plays, but OU managed only 10 at Michigan and 14 against New Mexico, and Sanford Stadium isn’t exactly the recommended destination for an offensive confidence retreat.
UGA can do most of the scoring and this still stay underneath 43.5. If the Sooners defense keeps the Dawgs from turning short fields into touchdowns, I like the clock and game script to do the rest.
I’ll take a Saturday afternoon where punts aren’t considered a personal failure.
