Boise State Broncos Predictions: Team Strengths
Starting QB Brett Rypien became the first true frosh to play at Boise State since 1993. How did he answer the bell? Twenty TDs and 3,353 yards.
If he continues to progress, Rypien may have a shot at breaking Kellen Moore’s vaunted school passing records. He’s got some other characters on offense that should fuel his success in 2016.

Running back Jeremy McNichols had a marvellous 2015 campaign, going for 1,337 rush yards, 26 total TDs to go along with 51 receptions. He’s a complete player, and the best at his position in the MWC.
The junior will again be a central component of the attack. Joining him in dominance is WR Thomas Sperbeck, a senior who had 88 grabs for 1,412 yards and eight scores.
Fellow senior WR Chaz Anderson chipped in with 42 receptions for 578 yards last year.
Tight end Jake Roh is also a weapon, and they are all buttressed by an offensive line that features cagey vets like Travis Averill and Steven Baggett.
Ultimately, the Broncos should be buck-wild on offense in 2016. Along with an excellent veteran LB corps (three of the top five leading tacklers return) this should guide their winning ways.
Boise State Broncos Predictions: Team Weaknesses
Boise State is a strong enough football program that it wouldn’t look out of place in the Pac-12 or Big 12 Conferences, which is topical because there’s been talk of Big 12 expansion.

As it stands, Boise routinely has remarkable roster depth by Mountain West standards. As such, it is difficult to nitpick the Broncos roster for weaknesses.
If anything, the defensive backs could be down a notch as they lose Darian Thompson, who was the MWC’s career interceptions leader (19) and another all-conference player in Donte Deayon.
They have highly-touted sophomore Dylan Sumner-Gardner stepping into one of the roles, who received a medical redshirt after playing only four games in 2015.
He should paper over some of it, but Thompson especially was a game-changer.
The defensive line also loses its four starters, but it is a unit that thrives on depth and rotational players.
The Broncos also lose OT Rees Odhiambo to the NFL, and 1st Team All-MWC center Marcus Henry.
As I mentioned, there is still lots of experience on the offensive line, but they were two key cogs that must be filled by junior OT Archie Lewis and C Mason Hampton.
Boise State Broncos 2016 Prediction: 12-1
The Broncos are an excellent ballclub, despite getting upset in a few contests last year. It’s plausible that BSU could go unbeaten this season.

They have a couple of tricky Pac-12 contests early in the year (Washington State, Oregon State), and I see them stumbling once along the way.
But, if they navigate those early games, it could be a battle of unbeaten teams in the Mountain West title game, likely versus San Diego State.
If the Broncos slip up, it’ll probably be against either one of the Pac-12 clubs or BYU.
