2026 NCAAF Handicapping – Ball State Cardinals vs Massachusetts Minutemen
Here’s why I’m backing an OVER bet below in my Cardinals Minutemen free pick & gambling prediction for this matchup.
Cardinals vs. Minutemen Gameday
Wednesday night MACtion takes us to Amherst, where the Ball State Cardinals visit the Massachusetts Minutemen on November 4, 2026. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 PM ET at McGuirk Alumni Stadium, with ESPNU carrying the game.
Ball State enters at 3-5 under Mike Uremovich, riding a two-game winning streak. The Cardinals are 1-4 on the road, so another victory away from Muncie would be a welcome change.
Ball State has the momentum, but Massachusetts has home field and a four-game losing streak to end.
Massachusetts stands at 4-4 under Joe Harasymiak after opening the season with four consecutive victories. Since then, the Minutemen haven’t won a game, and that promising September feels like ancient history.
Both teams are unranked and fighting to stay in the bowl conversation. Ball State needs three more victories to reach six wins, while Massachusetts needs two.
It’s Week 10, Ball State Cardinals vs. Massachusetts Minutemen, hopefully we get a great matchup.

Ball State Cardinals vs. Massachusetts Minutemen Odds & Previous Games
Massachusetts opened as a 3-point home favorite, with the Minutemen at -155 on the moneyline and Ball State returning +130. The opening total is 49.5 points.
Ball State is 2-3 over its last five games, beating Sacramento State 34-17 and Bowling Green 32-31. Earlier losses came against Northwestern 45-14, Toledo 39-24 and Kent State 26-13.
Massachusetts has dropped four of its last five, including a 35-16 defeat against Connecticut. The Minutemen also lost to Buffalo 25-18, Miami (OH) 20-19 and Eastern Michigan 38-14, with their lone victory coming 35-6 over Sacramento State.
These programs have met four times, splitting the series 2-2.
Ball State won their last meeting 20-10 in 2015, while Massachusetts has won both previous games played in Amherst.
The Cardinals have the better recent form, but their road struggles explain why the sportsbooks favor Massachusetts. Neither team has earned much trust, making that short spread particularly interesting.

Minutemen Stats
Massachusetts has scored 212 points through eight games, averaging 26.5 per contest. The Minutemen have accumulated 1,503 passing yards and 1,180 rushing yards, although their offensive consistency has slipped during conference play.
Elijah Faulkner leads the rushing attack with 376 yards, while Curtis Kimmons IV has contributed another 308. Both backs give Massachusetts options on the ground, but the offense needs better execution when drives reach scoring territory.
Receiver T.Y. Harding has collected 327 yards, with Jabari Lewis adding 284 and Joseph Griffin Jr. contributing 211.
The Minutemen have several receiving options capable of moving the chains.
Defensively, Massachusetts has registered 20 sacks and seven interceptions.
Those numbers show an ability to pressure quarterbacks and create turnovers, although the defense hasn’t consistently turned those opportunities into victories.
That’s been the frustrating part for Harasymiak. His defense can make a big play, then give the yards right back.
Cardinals Stats
Ball State’s offense has improved, averaging 395.5 total yards across its last four games. The Cardinals have exceeded 360 yards in four consecutive contests, their first such stretch since 2022.
Running back TJ Horton leads with 426 rushing yards and nine TDs. Jalen Bonds has added 224 yards and two scores, giving Ball State another option in the backfield.
Ball State’s improving ground attack gives the Cardinals a legitimate way to control possessions.
Donovan Hamilton has contributed 310 receiving yards, while Jamarion McDougle has added 264 yards and two TDs. Isaiah Thacker provides another target with 217 receiving yards.
The Cardinals have shown improvement defensively, particularly against the run. They held Sacramento State to only 54 rushing yards, forcing the Hornets into difficult passing situations.
Injuries remain a concern, with Kendrick Gilbert, Avery Stuart, Khristian Zachary and Jared Badie among the players unavailable for the previous contest. Their availability for Wednesday remains worth monitoring.
Uremovich has his team playing better football, but maintaining that progress away from home is another challenge.
The Cardinals need their recent offensive improvement to travel with them.
Cardinals vs. Minutemen QB Matchup
Massachusetts expects William “Pop” Watson III to lead its offense after returning from an ankle injury. Watson has completed 96 of 138 passes for 1,025 yards, eight TDs and two interceptions across seven appearances.
Watson has also rushed for 178 yards and four TDs, making him dangerous outside the pocket. His mobility adds another dimension, although that ankle remains something to watch.
Logan Inagawa provides the backup option, completing 24 of 37 passes for 296 yards, one TD and one interception. He’s appeared in five games and contributed another 75 rushing yards.
Ball State counters with Keldric Luster, who has completed 133 of 211 passes for 1,300 yards, nine TDs and six interceptions. He’s capable of stretching defenses, although those turnovers have occasionally been costly.
Luster has also rushed for 257 yards and two TDs. His ability to escape pressure gives Massachusetts another problem to solve.
CP Is More Than Just Sports Picks!
Anybody can post a prediction. CappersPicks backs up its sports picks with opinionated matchup analysis, experienced handicappers & documented betting performance. Pad that bankroll one day at a time!
Tyler Mizzell serves as Ball State’s reserve quarterback, completing 23 of 38 passes for 260 yards, one TD and no interceptions. He’s appeared in six games, but Luster remains the expected starter.
Both starting quarterbacks can extend plays, putting pressure on defensive containment.
Massachusetts needs to keep Luster in the pocket, while Ball State must account for Watson’s scrambling ability.
Ball State Cardinals vs. Massachusetts Minutemen bottom line: Two mobile quarterbacks facing defenses with consistency issues should make Wednesday’s MAC matchup an interesting test of execution.
Ball State Cardinals vs. Massachusetts Minutemen Football Betting Trends
- Ball State is 4-0 against the spread in all games this season.
- Also, the Cardinals have hit the over in 7 of their last 8 games as underdogs.
- Ball State is 3-0 against the spread as underdogs this season.
- The Minutemen have gone over the total in 14 of their last 19 games following a loss.
- Additionally, Massachusetts is 5-2 straight up as favorites over the last 7 games.
- Massachusetts has gone over the total in 14 of their last 23 home games.
Cardinals Minutemen Free Pick: Over 49.5
Here is my Cardinals Minutemen free pick: I’m betting Over 49.5 on Wednesday night. Ball State has gone over in 7 of its last 8 games as an underdog, and Massachusetts has cleared the total in 14 of its last 23 home games.
Those trends deserve attention, but I’m more interested in how this number gets beaten. Massachusetts is laying only 3 points, so neither team should have much reason to shut down its offense early.
Neither defense has earned the benefit of the doubt, and 49.5 isn’t asking for a shootout.
One defensive breakdown or a short field can turn an ordinary scoring drive into 7 points. That’s especially important when we’re dealing with two teams that haven’t exactly mastered mistake-free football.
I don’t need pretty football here.
We need TD’s instead of FG’s, and I like our chances of getting enough.
Wednesday’s play is Over 49.5.
