2017 Football Preview – AAC Conference – Midshipmen
Looking for 2017 Navy Midshipmen predictions? The Midshipmen had a really good 2016 with an excellent conference record. They lost to Temple in the AAC Championship game but should be in the mix for another division title.

Can anyone in the AAC slow down this rushing attack?
2017 Navy Midshipmen Predictions: Team Strengths
The option game: When you look at the Midshipmen offense the first thing that comes to mind is the running game. The triple option offense has been basically unstoppable in AAC play.
The Midshipmen have gone 7-1 each of the last two seasons and even though the top of the division is still strong with Houston, Memphis and Tulsa all engineering good offenses, can their defenses slow Navy down to get off the field?
Talented LBs should lead the defense: Service Academies normally have a hard time with experience at key spots but Navy’s linebacker unit should be ready to roll in 2017.
Led by second team All-AAC performer Micah Thomas the Midshipmen return their top 3 tacklers from 2016 (257 total tackles) and should see their PPG drop from 31 to around 25/26 PPG.
2017 Navy Midshipmen Predictions: Team Weaknesses
Can they stop the passing attacks of the West?: The Midshipmen secondary had its worst statistical season in 5 years.
They gave up over 250 yards through the air per game and allowed nearly 65% of the opposing QBs passes to be completed.
Do I expect those numbers to improve? Slightly, although Tom Herman has left Houston for the Big 12 the Cougars will still be an excellent offense. Tulsa, Memphis and even SMU will also have big time players under center.
If Navy is going to get back to the conference title game it will need to force more turnovers on that side of the ball and get to their 2015 numbers (222 passing yards per game).
Navy Midshipmen Prediction: 7-5
Navy plays a much tougher road schedule in conference, and I don’t expect them to upset Notre Dame this year.
The swing games for this season will be at Tulsa, at Memphis, at Temple and at Houston.
If they can split those 4 games they might be able to pull out 8 or 9 wins.
