2015 Kansas City Chiefs Schedule | Season Handicapping Picks

2015 NFL Football – Chiefs Analysis

The Kansas City Chiefs return to the field September 13 looking to improve upon a nine win season last year. The Chiefs did address a huge area of need in free agency – the team failed to complete a TD pass to a Wide Receiver last year – amazing but they did add Jeremy Maclin to hopefully put an end to that troubling stat.

Chiefs Odds

2015 Kansas City Chiefs Odds to win the 2016 Super Bowl: 40/1
2015 Kansas City Chiefs Odds to win the 2015 AFC Conference: 18/1
2015 Season Win Total: Chiefs 8.5 (OVER -105, UNDER -125); 2014 wins: 9

KC still has Jamaal Charles out of the backfield and a fairly solid QB situation.

So what does it all mean in the AFC West. Will the Chiefs qualify for the playoffs or is mediocrity on the horizon again? Let’s take a look at every game on the schedule and try to see if they can reach the 8.5 win Total that Vegas has set out for them.

Week 1: Sunday, Sept. 13, at Houston, 1 p.m.

The Texans may be decent this year but against the good teams I expect them to struggle – KC is one of those good teams. Houston will go with either Ryan Mallett or Brian Hoyer in Week 1 – underwhelming to say the least.

Week 2: Thursday, Sept. 17, Denver, 8:25 p.m.

The Chiefs haven’t beaten Denver since Peyton Manning arrived in town – I don’t expect it to happen in Week 2. The Broncos are a motivated bunch – one of the true elite teams in the game. No shame in losing to Peyton and the boys.

Week 3: Monday, Sept. 28, at Green Bay, 8:30 p.m.

Ugh – their second straight top tier team! The Packers at Lambeau are almost untouchable – tough spot for KC here. The Chiefs are on to Cincinnati with a 1-2 record.

Week 4: Sunday, Oct. 4, at Cincinnati, 1 p.m.

Their third straight game against a 2014 playoff team ends the same way as the other two – in a loss. It’s panic time in KC as they drop to 1-3.

Week 5: Sunday, Oct. 11, Chicago, 1 p.m.

Kansas City’s three game losing streak comes to an end against a sketchy Chicago defense in this one. Many, including myself predict the Bears to be typically dysfunctional this year – the Chiefs take advantage and move to 2-3.

Week 6: Sunday, Oct. 18, at Minnesota, 1 p.m.

This is a game that the Chiefs will need to win to have any shot at the playoffs – the gravity of this game isn’t lost on them.

I like the Chiefs to expose the defensive weaknesses in Minnesota’s defense and to outscore them easily.

Week 7: Sunday, Oct. 25, Pittsburgh, 1 p.m.

Home field advantage is huge for KC- that fact rings true in Week 7 against a very tough Steelers team. Jamaal Charles is the difference here as he outduels Le’Veon Bell en route to a KC win. The Chiefs head out on the road with a 4-3 record.

Week 8: Sunday, Nov. 1, Detroit in London, 9:30 a.m.

Ugh – travelling across the pond. The Lions have a little experience playing overseas – that experience is the difference Detroit wins an exciting game at Wembley. KC enters their bye with a respectable 4-4 record.

Week 9: BYE

Week 10: Sunday, Nov. 15, at Denver, 4:25 p.m.

I see Denver as the runaway winner of the AFC West – they should be amped for their divisional foe at home in Week 10. Peyton Manning and the Broncos have fared very well against KC in the recent past –my guess is that their success continues in Week 10.

Week 11: Sunday, Nov. 22, at San Diego, 8:30 p.m.

With a potential move to LA in their minds and with Philip Rivers’ questionable motivation, the Chiefs take advantage of a Chargers team that just can’t find their way in Week 11. KC heads home to play Buffalo with a 5-5 record.

Week 12: Sunday, Nov. 29, Buffalo, 1 p.m.

Buffalo has been pegged as one of the most improved teams in the NFL but winning at Arrowhead is a tall task for any visiting team. Add in the fact that the Bills will likely go with former Chiefs QB Matt Cassel who wasn’t great in his days starting at Arrowhead and this looks like an easy win for KC.

Week 13: Sunday, Dec. 6, at Oakland, 4:05 p.m.

The Raiders are another one of those improved teams that could make some noise this upcoming season. I think Derek Carr and company are rolling by Week 13 and they give the Chiefs fits at Oakland. The Raiders aren’t the doormat they have become known as – the Chiefs find out in Week 13 and leave California 6-6

Week 14: Sunday, Dec. 13, San Diego, 1 p.m.

Something tells me that the Chargers will be in disarray by Week 14 – the imminent move to LA will be on their minds and Philip Rivers head just isn’t in the game. I think the Chiefs take advantage and sweep the season series with their AFC West foe.

Week 15: Sunday, Dec. 20, at Baltimore, 1 p.m.

Baltimore will likely be in a heated battle for a playoff spot in the AFC North – they will be playing playoff football already. The Ravens are the more focused team here and take care of home field leaving the Chiefs 7-7.

Week 16: Sunday, Dec. 27, Cleveland, 1 p.m.

I’m not sure about Cleveland at all. Who knows what the direction of this team will be by Week 16. I just can’t see the Browns marching into Arrowhead and pulling the upset in this one.

Week 17: Sunday, Jan. 3, Oakland, 1 p.m.

Home against Oakland in the last Regular Season game – if all the cards fall just right the Chiefs will have a chance to make the playoffs. My guess is that fact isn’t lost on this team who play well and defeat the Raiders at home in the finale.

By my count that leaves the KC Chiefs with a 9-7 record – exactly the same as their record last year. While they do some good things, it simply won’t be enough to get into the playoffs. The Chiefs enter the season a piece or two short – by the end of the season those pieces will be exposed!

2015 Chiefs NFL Prediction

KC does surpass the 8.5 wins that Vegas has set out for them however – 9 wins with a little upside is probable here.
