It’s a Western conference, Central Division showdown to start off the Stanley cup playoffs. The St. Louis Blues take on the Minnesota wild in a series filled with all sorts of headlines.
Will Mike Yeo be able to beat the team that fired him last year? Will this be the year Bruce Boudreau finally makes it past the first round of the playoffs? All of these questions will be answered when the two teams start their series on Wednesday night.
St. Louis Blues
Statistically the St. Louis Blues are a middle of the road NHL team but they have been playing much better the last couple months of the season.
They come into the playoffs averaging 2.8 goals per game which is 12th in the NHL. On the defensive end they give up 2.6 goals per game which is 13th in the NHL.
The Blues are led by Vladimir Tarasenko who is has 39 goals and 36 assists on the season. For the Blues to win this series he is going to need to have a huge series. He has always seemed to be a thorn in the side of the Minnesota Wild.

The Blues really need to get goal tending out of Jake Allen in this series. He comes into this series with 33 wins. The Wild can put up a lot of goals in a a hurry so he is going to need to have a big series to slow that down.
One big thing to watch in this series is Paul Stastny.
He is doubtful for game one with a broken foot but many expect to see him later in the series. If he is able to go at some point in the series that would be a huge boost for the Blues.
Minnesota Wild
On the other side of this match up is the Minnesota Wild.
They got out of the gates fast and people believed this team could be the Stanley Cup champs. But then they hit a low in February and have really limped to the finish line. But now it’s the playoffs and anything can happen.
On the season the Wild average 3.2 goals per game scored with is second in the NHL. They only give up 2.5 goals per game which is seventh. To win this game the goals against is going to be the important number.
They really need to play well on the defensive side of the ice.

The Wild are led by Mikael Granlund who has 26 goals and 43 assists on the season. He really needs to have a huge series if the Wild want to come out ahead.
One thing the Wild can’t have happen in this series is to have a big injury. If they have a big injury in this series they won’t be able to come out and advance to the second round.

When it comes to the playoffs it’s all about which team is playing better together, and which team has better talent. Right now the Blues are playing better together but the Wild have more talent.

I think the Wild and their talent will be the difference in this series. I think they willcome out and win the first two games at home and not look back. I think the Wild win the series in five games.
