Handicapping 2016 NBA Basketball Futures Odds
We’ve gotten a solid look how everybody has played this season and while the top teams have been decided, the bottom of both conferences will be a race to the finish.
Team 1: NBA Future Gambling Lines – Golden State Warriors: 5/8
Yes it seems foolish to bet on a team at 5/8 odds to win the NBA Championship. However, this is a much safer bet than worrying about the big spreads Golden State will have every single game in the playoffs.
Golden State is on pace for an NBA record in wins and this team hasn’t been slowed down once this season.
Golden State will more than likely be the 1 seed in the West, pending a collapse, and it hasn’t seemed like any team in the NBA could beat them in a 7 game series.
Looking at them as a whole, they have had literally beat the lights out of all the top teams in the league.
They beat Cleveland, Chicago, San Antonio, Oklahoma City, and Los Angeles with rather ease this season.
Taking them now instead at this price with little juice may be wise. You can hedge your bet in the finals with likely getting a free wager one way or another.
NBA Future Gambling Lines – Cleveland Cavaliers 18/5
The Cavaliers have been a roller coaster this season. Falling 2 games short in the Finals last season without Kyrie Irving or Kevin Love to leading the East from the start this season.
However, head coach David Blatt was fired midway through the first half, sending shock waves through the entire league. They didn’t waste time promoting Tyrone Lue with a multi year deal, as he has brought the run and gun style to the Cavaliers right now.
Cleveland leads Toronto in the East and will likely be the one seed. The East has been notoriously given the label as a weak conference and rightfully so. Toronto poises the best threat to beat Cleveland in a 7 game series, but that is still a stretch itself.
Look at what Cleveland did as the 2 seed last season. They swept the 1 seeded, 60 win Atlanta Hawks team.
Cleveland at these odds is a nice play. They should have no problem flying through the playoffs and if they play Golden State, they’ll likely be around these odds or a little better.
The chance the Warriors get beat could flip the script as the Cavs would be favorite, making these odds so nice.
NBA Future Gambling Lines – San Antonio Spurs 19/5
The Spurs will likely be the 2 seed in the West and will deal with either Oklahoma City or Los Angeles in the Conference semi finals.
San Antonio hasn’t done anything flashy this season to gain the attention like Steph Curry has done. The Spurs have simply gone about their business and won game after game.
The advantage for the Spurs will be the veteran leadership, along with their stellar defense.
This is the best defensive team in the league and they simply do not let the opposition get into any rhythm.
Add all that to them being undefeated at home currently and this team will be hard to beat.
NBA Future Gambling Lines – Oklahoma City Thunder 12/1
There has been many rumors flying around that Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook could even jump ship after this season. These two have been the entire team for a couple seasons now and under Billy Donovan, they’ve completely changed their offensive style.
The Thunder currently hold the 3 seed, but have seen the Clippers gain some ground at the 4th spot.
Oklahoma City lacks depth and is very vulnerable to an early round upset.
However, this team has the potential to pull off upsets themselves if Durant and Westbrook get hot.
They may be worth a look, especially at high odds like this.
NBA Future Gambling Lines – Los Angeles Clippers 25/1
The Clippers had quite the drama filled first half of the season.
After Blake Griffin went down with an injury, the Clippers went on a massive winnings streak. Then, Griffin punched a team manager, which essentially put him on the trading block.
The Clippers fielded many calls, but eventually thought it was best to keep Griffin. Now, he continues to heal, and this team continues to fight for home court and chase the 3rd seed.
The Clippers aren’t bad here at 25/1. This team has size (Jordan, Griffin), three point threats (Redick, Paul), and depth (Crawford, Johnson, Green, Pierce).
It will be interesting to see how this team responds when Griffin does return to the lineup.
