(0-0) Nashville Predators vs. Pittsburgh Penguins (0-0)
We have reached the Stanley Cup Finals and at the end of this series someone will be raising Lord Stanley’s Cup and will be crowned the champions of the National Hockey League.
This series will feature the Nashville Predators representing the Western Conference, and the Pittsburgh Penguins representing the Eastern Conference.
The Pittsburgh Penguins will have home ice in this series by virtue of having the better record. The puck will drop on Monday night at 8pm Eastern at the PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
The Penguins are the favorites in this series at -165 while the Nashville Predators come in as the underdog at +145.
The Nashville Predators seem to be the cheering favorite coming into this Stanley Cup match up. They were the last team to clinch a seed into the playoffs, and if the seeding was 1-16 they would be a 16 seed. But that doesn’t matter now, they are hear and have a very good chance of winning this series.
In the first series of the playoffs they beat the Chicago Blackhawks in a sweep. In the second round it took six games but they beat the St. Louis Blues. In the Western conference finals it also took six games, but they were able to knock off the Anaheim Ducks.
The reason for the Predators success is because of the success they are having at home. In these playoffs they have only lost one game at home, and that was an overtime affair against the Ducks.
In net for the Predators is Pekka Rinne who had a great regular season but has played just as well in the playoffs. He has only had a few bad games and the Predators of course lost those games.
The Predators are getting a big boost back this series in Mike Fisher. He missed some games with an eye laceration but it has improved and he is probable for Mondays game.
It will be interesting to see how the Pittsburgh Penguins come out in this series. It took seven games to beat an Ottawa Senators team that should have only taken four maybe five games.
To win this series they need to get out to a good start in this series.
They average 3.4 goals per game which is the best in the NHL, and that’s no surprise seeing how many weapons they have in that zone.
The Penguins are led by Sidney Crosby. He has 44 goals and 45 assists this season and is going to need a big series for the Penguins to advance to the second round.
In the defensive zone is where the Penguins struggle. They give up 2.8 goals per game which is 17th in the NHL. One of the reasons for their struggles is they allow 32.6 shots on goal.
They have been saved a lot by goal tending this season.
To win this series they need to attack, attack, attack. They are the better team in this series so if they just play their game they should come out of this series victorious.
