Handicapping MLB Props
Hey there! Have you stopped by CappersPicks.com today looking for 2020 MLB Strikeout Leader Prop Betting Odds & Free Picks? Congratulations, you’re in the right place! Since World War I, only four men have struck out more batters in a season than Gerrit Cole did last season: Randy Johnson, Nolan Ryan, Sandy Koufax and Bob Feller.
MLB Predictions – 2020 Handicapping Insight
Cole’s 326 Ks were not enough for him to win the Cy Young over his teammate Justin Verlander but he’s a favorite to win the award this season with his new team, the Yankees.
He’s an even larger favorite over the field (of all 30 teams) to lead the league in strikeouts again. Thirty-Seven names are available to bet on in our recommended sportsbooks’ futures market.

Stay away from Scherzer
No one has done it better for longer, when you’re talking about strikeout pitchers. He fought through an injury and performance decline, some would say, to strike out 243 last season.
His rate was actually second in the league, only to Cole’s, and a shortened season should help Scherzer, who will have more time to recover from the World Series run and less innings to eat in the season.
That said, he’s on the wrong side of the age curve. There are just too many younger arms still on the rise for Mad Max to hold onto his position of dominance any longer. Don’t consider him at a relatively expensive +550 price.
Lucas Giolito
One of those young arms was formerly of Washington’s organization. Lucas Giolito has long been on the prospect scene but he broke through as a big league all-star in 2019.
He’ll turn 26 in July and he has all the stuff of a big-time strikeout ace with a fastball that sits in the upper-90s with a wicked hook and some tertiary stuff that continues to develop.
At 6’6” and 245 lbs, he has the size to be a workhorse and Chicago will likely give him a little longer leash in 2020 than it did in 2019. It may be tempted to even let it out a little longer than it might have if we only have 82 games in the regular season.
And at +1800, Giolito isn’t terribly expensive but firmly within that emerging tier of challengers to the strikeout crown.
Robbie Ray
Four guys averaged more than a dozen strikeouts per nine innings last season: Cole, Scherzer, Justin Verlander and, right in between them, Robbie Ray Jr.
He’s always had a big arm but injuries have nicked him in more seasons than not. This season represents a unique opportunity for Ray to stay healthy the whole way and sprint to the crown.
The big workhorses won’t have the advantage over Ray they typically do in regards to a season strikeout total. At 40-1, he deserves a look.

Cole had almost 70 strikeouts more than everyone not named Verlander in 2019. His lead over the field is so sizable that I’m buying him even at the high price.
But sprinkle some on Giolito and Ray, who offer larger payouts among a clouded field of would-be challengers.
