Houston Astros +400
The Astros have all the traits of a dynasty in the making. The regression of Jose Altuve following an MVP season in 2017 has been of note, but he’s still hitting the ball well.

The emergence of Alex Bregman adds another dynamic to an already loaded offens. The pitching rotation is the best in baseball, with Justin Verlander and Gerrit Cole both re-finding their Cy Young form.
New York Yankees +425
The Yankees knew adding Giancarlo Stanton in the offseason would put a target on their backs all year long, and thus far, they’ve been able to weather the storm. It’ll be interesting to see how this hit or miss lineup fares come playoff time when opposing pitchers have extra time to study their weak points.
Boston Red Sox +950
The Red Sox continue to get overshadowed by the Yankees, but the team’s have been neck and neck in the standings all year long. It’s actually been the Red Sox who have had the better offense than the Bronx Bombers. They’d be wise to pick up another arm at the trade deadline.

Chicago Cubs +1000
The Cubs don’t get as much attention as they probably deserve after winning the World Series in 2016 and getting to the brink of another appearance in 2017. There’s so much talent on the roster, and maybe the best manager in baseball in the dugout, that the regular season may be a bit of a bore for this group, but they know how to turn it on come playoff time.
Cleveland Indians +1000
The Indians kind of fall off to the side in discussions of who the best team in baseball is because there’s just not a lot to get particularly excited about. There are no big additions to the roster, no flashy players in the media. Just a team that’s as talented as any and possesses the pitching staff to beat you in 1-0 games and the offense to beat you in 8-7 games. Not to mention a manager with World Series credentials.
Atlanta Braves +2000
Yes, that’s the Braves sitting atop the N.L. East. Their ascent’s taken a bit of a shortcut thanks to an offense that’s been on absolute fire all season long. Freddie Freeman is looking like an MVP candidate (not surprising), while Nick Markakis is hitting better than he has at any point in his career (very surprising).

Philadelphia Phillies +3000
The Phillies aren’t going anywhere, as this is a club that looks to be in it for the long haul. The pipeline was definitely full, but no one thought they’d be ready to compete with the likes of the Nationals just yet.
Los Angeles Angels +4000
The injury to Shohei Ohtani certainly stings. This team needs to get Mike Trout some additional reinforcements quickly. They pulled the trigger on adding Justin Upton a year ago.
San Francisco Giants +5000
It’s always tough to count out the Giants until we see them officially eliminated. They’ve been able to hang around in the standings thanks to some surprisingly potent bats, and now they have Madison Bumgarner back in the fold with Johnny Cueto not far behind.
