2018 NBA Gambling Futures – Dishonorable Non-Mention: Cleveland Cavaliers +400
The Cleveland Cavaliers are currently listed as the No. 2 team in the NBA in terms of future championship odds. We offer you one warning right out of the gate.
Stay. Far. Away.
At least for now. The Cavs have had a mess of an offseason. LeBron is seemingly growing unhappy with the organization ahead of his 2018 free agency. Kyrie Irving has requested a trade. Derrick Rose was their big free-agent splash.
Yes, having LeBron makes you a near-lock to make the Finals out East, so we’re not saying give up on them completely.
But if you’re thinking about betting on them at this point, we’d advise you hold out until we know how the Kyrie Irving saga ends.
2018 NBA Gambling Futures – Honorable Mention: Houston Rockets +1600
The Houston Rockets did something this summer they’ve failed to do over and over again: They got a true superstar in Chris Paul to play with James Harden.
Despite being the No. 4 team in terms of championship odds, there are questions. How will the two ball-dominant guards mesh on the court? Can an offense-only team really compete with the Golden State Warriors?
Will Paul’s presence actually do the unthinkable and boost the D?
There are questions that keep them outside our top 3 favorites to bet on, but there’s a lot of potential here.
2018 NBA Gambling Futures – 1. Golden State Warriors -175
The Golden State Warriors were the consensus favorites to win the 2016-17 championship, and the same is going to go for 2017-18.

For those who still think this is a “jump-shooting” team, think again. Or at least realize they’re a jump-shooting team that does everything else the right way.
Last season, Golden State was historically dominant on both offense and defense.
Adding Kevin Durant to a ridiculous core of Draymond Green, Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson only enhanced a squad that already had all the motivation it needed having blown a 3-1 lead.
Think they’re bored of winning championships? Think again. At -175, it’s easy to see how your money is safe in their hands.
2018 NBA Gambling Futures – 2. Boston Celtics +900
The Boston Celtics are in prime position to take over the Eastern Conference. No, they don’t have LeBron James. But they have a roster that shouldn’t struggle to earn a top-two seed in a watered down East.

With Gordon Hayward and No. 3 overall pick Jayson Tatum officially on board, this team has the deadly combination of talent and depth that all championship squads require.
Hayward is the kind of player who can enhance both the offense and the defense, while Tatum offers huge upside even if he doesn’t earn a ton of run in Year 1.
If you’re thinking about putting down cold hard cash on this team, you’re probably banking on the fact that the Cavs are facing too much turmoil to reach a fourth straight title.
That’s yet to be seen, but there’s a strong chance they take a step back just as the C’s are reaching a new peak.
2018 NBA Gambling Futures – 3. San Antonio Spurs +1800
The Warriors proved to be unstoppable in last year’s playoffs, as they lost just one game (to the Cavs) en route to a second title in three years.
That said, there was one team that looked capable of slowing them down—until one unfortunate rolled ankle changed everything.

The San Antonio Spurs entered Game 1 of their series with the Warriors and had a 25-point lead in the second half. But not long after that, Zaza Pachulia’s undercut of the shooting Kawhi Leonard took The Klaw out for the rest of the series.
Although the Rockets are going to be a sexy pick to reach the Western Conference Finals next season, there’s a lot to like about a Kawhi-/Gregg Popovich-led team that can never be counted out.
This team isn’t going away, and it deserves a look when you’re thinking about NBA Futures ahead of the season.
