2017 NBA Draft Odds
Have you swung by Cappers Picks today looking for 2017 NBA Draft Handicapping Odds? You’re in the right place! You know how they call the summer months the NBA offseason? “Offseason” is a bold-faced lie. Since the 2017 NBA Finals came to its inevitable Warriors-dominated conclusion, the supposed off time has been as eventful as ever.
Handicapping 2018 NBA Gambling Future Lines
We’ve had rumors involving superstars such as Paul George, Jimmy Butler and Kyle Lowry, and we’ve already had a major trade as far as the draft is concerned.
With the draft in mind, here’s a look at odds for prospects going No. 1 overall, per Bovada, as well as which players we think will go where in the lottery.
2017 NBA Draft Handicapping Odds: Markelle Fultz (-5000)
With Boston dealing it’s No. 1 pick to the Philadelphia 76ers for No. 3 and future first-rounders, Markelle Fultz is all but guaranteed to be 2017’s top selection.
The guard out of Washington has won over the hearts of Sixers fans for a reason. For starters, fan favorite Joel Embiid has already deemed him part of the infamous “process.”
But there’s also the James Harden comparisons, incredible scoring ability and stat-stuffing tendencies—not to mention his size at the point guard position.
If Philly has been missing anything during this “process” it’s a long-term, franchise-saving point guard.
With Fultz, they have that officially on board.
Placing your bet elsewhere is a fool’s wager.
2017 NBA Draft Handicapping Odds: Lonzo Ball (+1200)
Lonzo Ball comes in at No. 2 as far as first-pick odds are concerned, and that makes sense. He’s a jaunt behind Fultz, but he’s also the widely presumed second pick to the Los Angeles Lakers.
Not only have we heard L.A. talk about its fascination when it comes to the UCLA product (as well as his outspoken (if not obnoxious at times) father, LaVar), but the kid is a potential long-term option at the point guard spot—something the Lakers have needed despite the showing they’ve gotten from D’Angelo Russell.
If the Lakers draft Ball, they’ll have a Jason Kidd-like player to build around for more than a decade to come.
His shot is funky at this point in the process, but that’s not a bad player comparison considering the former is a Hall of Famer and he’s being drafted by one of the greatest of all time, Magic Johnson.
2017 NBA Draft Handicapping Odds: Jayson Tatum (+5000)
If the Boston Celtics still had possession of the No. 1 pick, Jayson Tatum would be in play. General Manager Danny Ainge was likely to still pick Fultz, but he’s made it clear he likes the Duke product.
At this point in the process, the biggest debate in the draft comes down to what will the Celtics do at No. 3: take Tatum or Kansas Jayhawk Josh Jackson.
Both offer incredible upside, but while Jackson may have the best immediate upside, Tatum could very well be the better prospect as far as long-term production is concerned.
Is Tatum going to go No. 1? Not at this point in the process.
But if he falls past the Celtics at No. 3, don’t expect him to escape the top 5.
2017 NBA Draft Handicapping Odds: Any Other Player (+700)
Josh Jackson is a popular pick for No. 3 overall to the Boston Celtics. Guys like Malik Monk, De’Arron Fox and Jonathan Isaac should round out the rest of the top five or six. All of these prospects are great.
But to pick them to go first in this year’s draft? You’d be foolishly optimistic to place money on their names.
Fultz is set to go No. 1, and there’s a virtual impossibility that he goes anywhere else.
Here’s a look at how we think the lottery will play out.
