Red Wings vs. Kraken Gameday
The Detroit Red Wings visit the Seattle Kraken on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at Climate Pledge Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 9:40 PM ET, with ESPN+ streaming and regional coverage on KONG and Prime Video. Detroit enters 3-3-2, while Seattle is 5-3-1.
Todd McLellan’s Red Wings have won two straight and begin a four-game western road trip. The team is looking for better results away from Detroit after an uneven start.
That trip opens against a familiar opponent.
Seattle already beat Detroit once, but the Red Wings arrive with more confidence than they had in that first meeting.
Lane Lambert’s Kraken return home after earning seven of a possible 10 points on a five-game road trip. Seattle went 3-1-1 during that stretch before dropping its final two contests. The club now begins a favorable run with six of its next seven games at Climate Pledge Arena.
Detroit has been more competitive lately, while Seattle is trying to regain its defensive structure. Both teams have enough offensive talent to make mistakes expensive.
The opening minutes should tell us plenty about their approach.

Detroit Red Wings vs. Seattle Kraken Odds & Previous Games
Seattle opened as the -110 moneyline favorite, with Detroit at -107. The Red Wings are +1.5 (-277) on the puck line, while the Kraken are -1.5 (+219). The total is 6.5 goals, with the Under priced at -116.
Detroit defeated San Jose 4-3 in a shootout and Philadelphia 2-1. Earlier setbacks came against New Jersey and Montreal.
Seattle also handed the Red Wings a 6-3 defeat on October 9.
The Kraken lost 8-3 to Florida after a 4-3 overtime defeat against Tampa Bay. Seattle previously defeated Philadelphia 3-2 in a shootout and Washington 5-3. The results have featured several dramatic momentum swings.
Detroit won both meetings during the 2025-26 season, 4-2 and 4-3. Seattle has already reversed that pattern with its first victory in the current season series.
Tuesday gives Detroit an immediate opportunity to answer.

Kraken Stats
Seattle has scored 34 goals through nine games, averaging 3.78 per contest. The Kraken enter among the NHL’s most productive offensive teams. Eleven different Seattle skaters have already scored multiple goals, showing how widely the production is distributed.
The Kraken have generated six power-play goals and 60 assists. Their forecheck also creates opportunities when opposing defensemen struggle to move the puck.
Seattle doesn’t need one line to carry the attack.
Seattle has plenty of scoring options, but its defensive coverage hasn’t always kept pace with the offense.
The Kraken have allowed 31 goals, an average of 3.44 per game. They have blocked 152 shots, including 13 from Vince Dunn. The defensive numbers leave room for improvement despite the winning record.
Frederick Gaudreau has five goals, while Chandler Stephenson leads with seven assists. Jared McCann remains another important offensive threat.
Lambert has options, but defensive consistency remains the bigger concern.
Red Wings Stats
Detroit has scored 19 goals through eight games, averaging 2.38 per contest. The Red Wings have allowed 23 goals, or 2.88 per game. Their defensive work has generally been more reliable than their finishing.
Detroit’s power play is converting at 17.9 percent, while the penalty kill sits at 69.0 percent. Those special-teams results have made several games more difficult than necessary.
McLellan needs better execution in both situations.
Alex DeBrincat leads the Red Wings with nine points, including five goals. Moritz Seider has been a steady presence on the blue line, and Emmitt Finnie has supplied useful offensive support. Detroit needs more contributions beyond its established scorers.
Seider leads the team with 26 blocked shots, while Michael Brandsegg-Nygård has recorded 31 hits. Both have brought a physical edge to the lineup.
That work matters against Seattle’s aggressive forecheck.
Red Wings vs. Kraken Goaltending Matchup
Daniil Tarasov is expected to start for Detroit after Todd McLellan named him for Tuesday’s game. Tarasov has opened with a 1-0-1 record, a .965 save percentage and a 0.79 goals-against average. His early work includes a shutout.
John Gibson has handled most of Detroit’s appearances, posting a 2-3-1 record. His 3.58 goals-against average reflects a difficult start.
Tarasov gets an important road assignment.
Seattle has rotated Joey Daccord and Philipp Grubauer. Daccord endured a difficult outing against Florida, surrendering eight goals on 37 shots. Grubauer previously stopped 31 shots in the overtime loss to Tampa Bay.
Grubauer carries a 2.71 goals-against average and .910 save percentage. Seattle has not confirmed its starter for Tuesday.
Lambert’s decision will be worth watching.
CP Is More Than Just Sports Picks!
“ Anybody can post a prediction. CappersPicks backs up its sports picks with opinionated matchup analysis, experienced handicappers & documented betting performance. Pad that bankroll one day at a time! ”
The Kraken will pressure Detroit’s defensemen and look for turnovers below the goal line. Tarasov must control rebounds when Seattle establishes possession. Detroit’s defenders cannot leave opponents alone around the crease.
Seattle also needs cleaner defensive coverage than it showed against Florida. Detroit can punish careless changes and loose positioning with quick attacks.
Detroit Red Wings vs. Seattle Kraken bottom line: Seattle brings the more productive offense, while Detroit needs disciplined defensive work and another strong performance from Tarasov to challenge the Kraken.
Detroit Red Wings vs. Seattle Kraken Hockey Betting Trends

Red Wings Kraken Free Pick: Over 6.5
Here is my Red Wings Kraken free pick: I’m betting Over 6.5. Seattle’s games have been opening up, and Detroit has enough offensive talent to take advantage. Seven goals is a serious number, but this matchup offers several ways to get there. Seattle has struggled to protect leads when opponents increase the pressure. That creates opportunities for Detroit to push the pace instead of settling into a defensive game.
I’m expecting both teams to contribute.
Seattle’s aggressive approach can produce goals at either end, and that’s the risk I’m willing to buy at 6.5.
Special teams offer another route to seven goals. Detroit’s penalty kill has been unreliable, while Seattle has enough puck movement to capitalize on extra-man opportunities. A couple of penalties could change this game in a hurry.
The real danger is one team getting ahead and shutting everything down. Neither club has been especially convincing at protecting a lead, which makes a late scoring push realistic. I’ll take the chance on another open contest rather than betting on either defense suddenly finding the answers.
Over 6.5 is the play.
