Winners of five out of seven, Columbus heads to Buffalo to take on the Sabres in a game that should help further solidify the Blue Jackets’ spot at 2nd in the Metropolitan Division.
The disappointing Buffalo Sabres, with six losses in the last seven games, are limping through the season and you shouldn’t expect a lot from the team in this game.
Columbus Blue Jackets
It’s safe to say that the Columbus Blue Jackets have found their identity again after struggling for the first half of this new year. After a 16-game winning streak was snapped, Columbus went .500 for almost two months.
Now, the team has won eight of the last 12 games and the goaltending has been back to what it was during the winning streak.
Starting goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky has been wonderful for the majority of the season and he has recorded three shutouts in a row.
Bobrovsky is a huge reason why Columbus is one of the best teams in the league in the goals against stat. He is 35-14-4 with a 2.05 goals against average and a .931 save percentage.
Right wing Cam Atkinson has been a great offensive weapon for this team. He has 30 goals and 26 assists in 65 games this season. Over his last five games, he has a goal and two assists.
Brandon Saad has been very good as well. He has 20 goals and 25 assists this season, including two goals over his last five games.
Buffalo has some talent but it doesn’t have enough to win games against great teams. The offense ranks 22nd in goals scored and the defense ranks 22nd in goals against. Buffalo averages just 2.5 goals per game while giving up 2.93 per game.
The major offensive factor continues to be Jack Eichel. He’s been brilliant despite starting the season on the injured reserve list. In his 46 games this season, he has 18 goals and 27 assists.
He has four goal and five assists over his last five games, including two three-point performances.
Kyle Okposo and Evander Kane have each had great moments this season but the three of these skaters can’t get things done by themselves. Kane leads the team in goals with 24, including three goals over his last five games. Okposo has 19 goals on the year, including one over his last five.
The goaltending has left a lot to be desired and it’ll have to be perfect to beat Columbus. Robin Lehner is 18-19-8 on the year with a 2.67 goals against average.
NHL Betting Trends:
- Columbus is 5-10 ATS in the last 15 games
- Buffalo is 1-7 SU in the last eight games
