Washington returns under Head Coach Dan Quinn after a difficult 5-12 season that was heavily impacted by injuries. A healthy Daniels immediately changes the feel of this NFC East opener for Washington.

The betting market favors Philadelphia entering this NFC East opener. The Eagles are listed at -230 on the moneyline, while Washington comes back at +192. The spread has Philadelphia laying -5.5 points and the Commanders getting +5.5.
Washington finished the preseason 1-2, opening with a 20-7 victory against Miami before losing 17-13 at Detroit. The Commanders then rested 41 players for their preseason finale and suffered a 41-3 loss at Baltimore.
Philadelphia went 0-3 during its exhibition schedule.

Eagles Stats
The Philadelphia Eagles enter 2026 after an 11-6 season that produced another NFC East championship. Philadelphia scored 22.3 points per game while generating 5,291 total offensive yards.
Jalen Hurts remained the centerpiece, throwing for 3,224 yards and 25 touchdowns against only six interceptions. Saquon Barkley supplied 1,140 rushing yards and seven touchdowns, while DeVonta Smith led Philadelphia with 1,008 receiving yards. Hurts added another 421 yards and eight scores on the ground.
Philadelphia’s defense allowed only 19.1 points per game last season and surrendered 5,341 total yards. The Eagles recorded 35 sacks while forcing 12 interceptions, helping them stay competitive despite an offense that wasn’t as productive as the previous year.
Jalyx Hunt led Philadelphia with 6.5 sacks and also intercepted three passes. Moro Ojomo added six sacks, while Cooper DeJean remained an important piece in the secondary.
That defensive foundation gives Fangio plenty to work with entering another season.

Commanders Stats
The Washington Commanders finished 5-12 last season after injuries derailed a team coming off an NFC Championship Game appearance. Washington averaged 20.9 points per game while producing 5,419 total offensive yards. The running game remained productive with 2,290 yards on the season.
Jacory Croskey-Merritt led Washington with 805 rushing yards and eight touchdowns, while Chris Rodriguez Jr. added 500 yards and six scores.
Deebo Samuel Sr. paced the receiving group with 727 yards, with Terry McLaurin contributing 582. Washington used three quarterbacks during an injury-filled season.
The defense had considerably more trouble, surrendering 6,533 total yards and 26.5 points per game. Washington was particularly vulnerable on the ground, allowing opponents to pile up 2,411 rushing yards. The pass rush still generated 42 sacks.
The Commanders reshaped that unit during the offseason with several additions around Frankie Luvu and Daron Payne.
Washington now gets Daniels back to lead Blough’s new offensive approach.

Commanders vs. Eagles QB Matchup
Hurts leads Philadelphia into another season after completing 294-of-454 passes for 3,224 yards in 2025. He threw 25 touchdowns against six interceptions and finished with a 98.5 passer rating. Hurts also rushed for 421 yards and eight touchdowns.
His ability to threaten Washington with both his arm and legs remains a major part of this matchup.
Daniels returns as Washington’s starting quarterback after injuries limited his second NFL season to seven games. Daniels completed 114-of-188 passes for 1,262 yards, eight touchdowns and three interceptions.
He added 278 rushing yards and two touchdowns despite the shortened season.
Daniels enters 2026 healthy and will operate a revised offense under Blough, who worked closely with him during his first two NFL seasons. His 2024 rookie campaign showed a much higher ceiling, when he produced 3,568 passing yards, 891 rushing yards and 31 total touchdowns.
This opener offers Daniels an immediate divisional test against Fangio’s Philadelphia defense.
Washington Commanders vs. Philadelphia Eagles bottom line: Philadelphia brings the stronger 2025 results and home field into Week 1, while a healthy Washington roster gives this NFC East matchup a much different look.
Washington Commanders vs. Philadelphia Eagles Football Betting Trends

- Philadelphia has a 2-1 record against the total in their last 3 games when playing as favorites.
- Additionally, the Commanders have a 3-0 record against the spread after a loss in their last 3 regular-season games.

Commanders Eagles Free Pick: Over 44.5
Here is my Commanders Eagles free pick: Over 44.5 is the play in Philadelphia, and Washington’s late-season results give me a good reason to start there. The Commanders finished 2025 with 4 straight Overs.
Those final 4 games produced 50, 47, 53 and 41 combined points. Washington was an underdog each time, and that combination of competitive football and higher-scoring games has my attention.
Philadelphia wasn’t an offensive juggernaut last season, averaging 22.3 points per game and ranking 19th in scoring. The Eagles were much better defensively, allowing only 19.1 per game.
The interesting part is Washington’s defense, which gave up 26.5 points per game in 2025 and finished near the bottom of the league.
That unit creates opportunity. Jayden Daniels and the Commanders don’t need to carry this total themselves if Philadelphia consistently gets favorable field position and scoring chances.
Besides, these teams cleared this number in their first 2025 meeting, when Philadelphia won 29-18. The rematch finished 24-17 Washington, falling short of 44.5, so the head-to-head history isn’t a clean Over trend.
Still, Washington’s last 4 games as an underdog all went Over, and this number doesn’t demand a shootout.
I’ll trust the recent scoring pattern and play Over 44.5 in Commanders-Eagles.
