It is hard to remember that way back when these teams were in the same division and met twice per season. They met once this season and have met once in the playoffs.
During the season Tampa got the win, in a surprising beatdown of Green Bay. It might have been the best game for the Bucs and the worst we saw of Green Bay all season.
Green Bay won relatively easily against the Rams while Tampa pulled away from New Orleans in the second half of their win.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
With Tom Brady leading the way the Buccaneers are in the NFC Championship Game for the first time in a while. Brady had a great regular season but he was far from magic in the win last week.
Tampa had a good gameplan for limiting the Saints in the win. They forced Drew Brees to do things he might not be able to do anymore, push the ball downfield, and capitalized on the mistakes.
The Bucs are going to need a different gameplan if they are going to beat Green Bay for a second time this season. Defense will again be the key as they held the Packers to just ten points in that earlier game.
They were able to bring pressure on Aaron Rodgers resulting in an interception for a touchdown and five sacks. After getting down 10-0 they scored the next 38 points.
Having done it once you can’t say the Bucs can’t beat the Packers again. It will be tougher in cold Lambeau Field than in sunny Tampa Bay
Green Bay Packers
The Packers won by 14 last week against a hobbled Rams team. I am not sure it would have made a difference but injuries to Jared Goff and Aaron Donald might have made the win look easier than it might have been.
Rodgers was methodical in directing the Packers offense. He was not sacked once and had no turnovers. I wonder if the Pack has ever lost a game where that was the case.
Donald was in and out of the lineup all game long. That helped Green Bay rack up 188 yards rushing and control the clock. Aaron Jones wsa one yard shy of 100, continuing his excellent season.
Like any quarterback, Brady struggles when he is under pressure. That is going to be key for Green Bay in this one as their coverage personnel are good but not elite.
How much home field is going to matter in this one is debatable. Brady has certainly played in a lot of cold-weather games and won’t be shy on this stage. Green Bay has been closer to Super Bowl than Tampa of late and maybe that experience factor across the team makes a difference.

Still, I trust Green Bay and Rodgers to have learned from their mistakes in the first game, similar to the way the Bucs did in beating the Saints. Green Bay will likely lead throughout which would force the Bucs to take a few more chances than they would like.
They ran the ball well the first time these teams played but that is hard to do when you are behind.
