Buccaneers vs. Bengals Gameday
The 2026 regular season opens with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers visiting the Cincinnati Bengals at Paycor Stadium. Both teams enter Week 1 at 0-0 after missing the playoffs last season. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 PM ET on Sunday, September 13, with FOX carrying the game.
Tampa Bay, led by head coach Todd Bowles, finished the preseason 2-1. The Buccaneers closed their exhibition schedule with a 19-0 loss to Jacksonville, although both teams rested their starters. New offensive coordinator Zac Robinson now gets his first regular-season opportunity with Baker Mayfield and the Tampa Bay offense.
Cincinnati enters Week 1 with Joe Burrow healthy and its explosive passing attack back together.
The Bengals went a perfect 3-0 during the preseason, finishing with a 30-13 victory over Philadelphia. Zac Taylor returns as head coach, with Dan Pitcher running the offense and Al Golden coordinating the defense. Cincinnati is looking to rebound from last season’s 6-11 finish.
Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins have both been limited by minor injuries entering Week 1, but Taylor has indicated that both are expected to be ready for the opener. That would give Burrow his top receiving weapons against a Tampa Bay secondary that had trouble defending the pass last season.
Week 1 gives both clubs an immediate opportunity to change the tone after disappointing 2025 finishes.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Cincinnati Bengals Odds & Last 5
Cincinnati enters Week 1 as the home favorite, with the spread sitting around Bengals -4 after opening in the -3.5 range. Tampa Bay is getting the points on the road, while the total is around 50.5, putting this among the higher totals on the opening-week board.
These teams haven’t met in the regular season since 2022.
Cincinnati won that matchup 34-23 in Tampa after overcoming an early 17-0 deficit. The Bengals have won the last three regular-season meetings between the clubs, although Tampa Bay owns a 7-6 advantage in the all-time series.
The preseason produced different finishes for these teams.
Tampa Bay beat Kansas City and the New York Jets before its reserve-heavy 19-0 loss to Jacksonville. Cincinnati finished 3-0 and closed with a 30-13 victory over Philadelphia, giving the Bengals some positive momentum before turning the offense back over to Burrow.
Bengals Stats From Last Season
Cincinnati finished 6-11 last season despite averaging 24.4 points per game. The passing attack remained the clear strength, producing 235.6 yards per game, while the Bengals struggled to establish consistent balance with only 93.6 rushing yards per contest.
Burrow’s return gives this offense a much different ceiling.
The Bengals quarterback played only eight games in 2025, forcing Cincinnati to use multiple starters during the season. Even with that disruption, the offense finished with 36 passing touchdowns and remained dangerous when it could protect the quarterback. The larger problem came on the other side of the ball.
Cincinnati allowed 28.9 points per game and surrendered 147.1 rushing yards per contest, the most in the NFL. The Bengals also allowed 392.6 total yards per game, leaving Al Golden’s defense with plenty to improve entering his second season as coordinator.
Chase and Higgins have dealt with minor injuries during the build-up to Week 1.
Both receivers have been limited, but Cincinnati expects them to be available against Tampa Bay. Having those two weapons alongside Burrow would give the Bengals the offensive firepower needed to challenge a Buccaneers defense that was vulnerable through the air last season.

Buccaneers Stats From Last Season
Tampa Bay finished 8-9 in 2025 and scored 380 points, an average of 22.4 per game. The Buccaneers produced 5,447 total yards, with 3,500 coming through the air and 1,947 on the ground. That offense now transitions to Zac Robinson as its new coordinator.
Baker Mayfield remains the centerpiece of the attack.
Mayfield started all 17 games last season and threw for 3,693 yards with 26 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Tampa Bay also received enough production from its running game to average 114.5 yards per contest, giving Robinson multiple ways to attack Cincinnati.
Defensively, the Buccaneers allowed 24.2 points per game.
Tampa Bay was much stronger against the run, holding opponents to 99.1 rushing yards per game. The secondary was more vulnerable, allowing 238.2 passing yards per contest, which could become especially important against Burrow, Chase and Higgins.
The Buccaneers finished the preseason 2-1.
Their 19-0 loss to Jacksonville came with the starters resting, so there is little reason to treat that result as a referendum on the Week 1 offense. The bigger question is how quickly Tampa Bay adjusts to Robinson’s system against a Cincinnati defense looking to rebound from a difficult 2025.
We want to hear from you below! Comments are welcome! Give us your picks for this Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Cincinnati Bengals NFL matchup.
Buccaneers vs. Bengals QB Matchup
Joe Burrow returns as Cincinnati’s starting quarterback after an abbreviated 2025 season. Burrow appeared in eight games and completed 173 of 259 passes for 1,809 yards. He threw 17 touchdowns against five interceptions and finished with a 100.7 passer rating.
His availability changes the complexion of Cincinnati’s offense.
The Bengals were forced to cycle through quarterbacks while Burrow was unavailable last season, yet still finished among the NFL’s better passing teams. With Chase and Higgins expected to be available, Burrow again has the weapons to attack vertically and put pressure on Tampa Bay’s secondary.
Baker Mayfield gives Tampa Bay considerably more continuity at quarterback.
Mayfield played all 17 games in 2025, completing 343 of 543 passes for 3,693 yards. His 26 touchdown passes came against 11 interceptions, and he now begins his fourth season with the Buccaneers after three years as their unquestioned starter.
The matchup gives Week 1 two experienced quarterbacks capable of creating points.
Burrow has the stronger collection of receiving weapons if Cincinnati is healthy, while Mayfield gets a favorable matchup against a Bengals defense that struggled throughout 2025. Neither quarterback should need a perfect afternoon to move the football.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Cincinnati Bengals bottom line: Two proven quarterbacks face defenses that allowed plenty of points last season, creating the potential for an offense-driven Week 1 opener.

Buccaneers Bengals Free Pick: Over 50.5
Here is my Buccaneers Bengals free pick:
I’m going Over 50.5 in a Week 1 matchup where I trust both quarterbacks more than either defense. Joe Burrow is back for Cincinnati, and assuming Chase and Higgins are available as expected, the Bengals should have their primary passing weapons ready to attack Tampa Bay.
The Buccaneers can contribute plenty themselves. Baker Mayfield gives them stability at quarterback, and Cincinnati’s defense spent last season giving opponents too many easy paths to points.
That matters because I don’t want this Over completely dependent on Burrow lighting up the scoreboard. Tampa Bay has enough offensive pieces to push back if Cincinnati gets rolling early, and Mayfield isn’t afraid to play aggressively when the game turns into a shootout.
Both quarterbacks have enough favorable matchups here to keep the scoreboard moving.
There is some Week 1 uncertainty with a new offensive coordinator in Tampa Bay. Still, Cincinnati’s defensive problems and the Bucs’ issues against the pass give each offense an obvious area to attack.
A total above 50 asks for plenty, so I’m not pretending we have much margin for dead possessions. My NFL betting system sees more upside with the offenses than either defense, so I’ll play the Over 50.5.
