San Francisco’s win over the Rams on Saturday didn’t actually affect its status as the potential NFC West champion; it has to win in Seattle on Sunday evening to clinch the division its led all season.

What San Francisco’s win did do was put it in as much control over its own destiny as possible and perhaps no team has more to win, or lose, in Week 17.
San Francisco 49ers
A win earns San Francisco its first NFC West Division Title since 2012, when Colin Kaepernick led those Niners all the way to the Super Bowl, and home field advantage throughout the playoffs.
A loss means Seattle, which trailed the 49ers all season but won that critical Week 10 matchup in San Francisco on Monday Night Football, takes the title instead. It will have won both head-to-head matchups and earned the tie-break.
Of course, it would also mean San Francisco drops all the way into the top wild card slot in the NFC — the fifth seed — and would face the pathetic NFC East champion on the road.
But the 49ers have been tabbed as favorites in this game on the road. Vegas believes they are the better side and that, along with desperation and the incentive of the NFC’s top seed on the line, will pull them through.
One man who is laying it all on the line to get that top spot is tight end George Kittle. He has continued to play on a gimpy leg and put up numbers. He went for another seventy-nine yards and scored a go-ahead fourth quarter touchdown against the Rams on Saturday.
Seattle Seahawks
Some of the rationale that has pegged San Francisco a road favorite also must have to do with Seattle’s recent form after it lost, at home, to the four-win Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, 27–13.
After losing to the Rams in a touchdown-less performance in Week 14, the Seahawks seemingly recovered in Carolina the next week. The offense put up 428 total yards of offense in a 30–24 road victory (and either push or cover, depending on what sort of number the bettor got).
Now, that confidence is gone. Russell Wilson completed just sixteen of thirty-one passes against Arizona for 169 yards and a short touchdown pass and oddsmakers are bullish on another rough outing against San Francisco’s defense, considering the state of the running game.
Chris Carson ran just eight times for forty yards on Sunday before getting hurt. It’s being reported both he and CJ Prosise, who also left the game with an injury, are out for the season. It’s all on top of Rashaad Penny’s season-ending ACL injury suffered against the Rams in Week 14.
With nobody to hand the ball off to and Tyler Lockett, still dealing with that nasty leg injury he originally suffered in that Monday Night Football matchup last month, laboring (he caught one ball for twelve yards on Sunday), Russell Wilson is up against the world with the NFC West on the line.
