The 49ers head to Mile High to take on the Broncos on Sunday Night Football. Jimmy G makes his return to the starting lineup after the 49ers lost Trey Lance for the season with an ankle injury.
The 49ers open as road favorites, sitting at -1.5 ATS and -115 on the ML. The over/under is set at 45.
San Francisco 49ers
The 49ers are coming off beating up the Seahakws at home 27-7. Obviously, the huge news out of this game was Trey Lance went down with a fractured ankle and most likely going to miss the rest of the season. Jimmy Garoppolo came in and went 13/21 with 154 yards and a touchdown. The offense shouldn’t really take a step back with Jimmy G coming in knowing the offense very well and has had success in the system.
With Elijah Mitchell hurt, it was a question how they were going to handle the backfield. They did run the ball a lot, even though it was a blow out. Jeff Wilson Jr had 18 carries for 84 yards and Tyrion Davis-Price had 14 carries for 33 yards. Deebo Samuel also had 4 carries for 53 yards. I’d assume it’s going to be Wilsons job to lose, but also look for Deebo to become more involved in the run game.
The 49ers rank 17th in offensive DVOA, 3rd in defensive DVOA, making them 10th overall in team DVOA. The strength of this team is the defensive line and stopping the run. Nick Bosa has already been a menace this year, having 9 tackles and 3 sacks.
Denver Broncos
The Broncos are coming off an ugly 16-9 win at home against the Texans. Russell Wilson was 14/31 for 219 yards with one touchdown and one interception. After Jerry Jeudy left with a shoulder injury, Wilson hit Courtland Sutton a bunch; he finished with 7 catches and 122 yards.
The real issue with the Broncos so far in the young season is their ability to score touchdowns in red zone. Through 2 weeks, they are 0-6 scoring touchdowns in the red zone. In week 1, they had 2 fumbles on the 1 yard line and ended up losing a game they completely dominated. Nathaniel Hackett has been getting a lot of flack being a first time head coach and some of the decisions that he has made. The Broncos were trailing going into the 4th quarter before they scored 10 points to finish of the Texans.
The Broncos rank 14th in offensive DVOA, and 5th in defensive DVOA, which places them 11th in overall team DVOA. With Jerry Jeudy most likely out, the Broncos really are going to relay on Sutton and also should give Javante Williams more touches in the rushing attack.
