What is up folks! NFL playoffs are finally here and I for one cannot wait! This game is being touted as a probable blowout, most fans are pretty ticked off we didn’t get either the Chargers or Ravens in this one.
But, be that as it may, Big Ben gets to play in the playoffs one last time and go out in style. Do they have some magic left in the tank to get passed the perennial contending Chiefs in Arrowhead no less?
Pretty doubtful, but, let’s dig into this thing and see what the Steelers can do to potentially limit Mahomes and this high octane offence.
Pittsburgh Steelers
Mike Tomlin in my humble opinion is one of the greatest coaches in the history of the game. He continuously manages to bring bad to mediocre rosters to the playoffs every single year.
Now they only barely squeaked into the playoffs this year with some help from Carson Wentz and Brandon Staley, but they are in nonetheless so congratulations to them.
Pittsburgh has one of the best pass rushers in the game in TJ Watt who broke the single season sack record this season despite missing 2 games to injury. We saw what the Buccaneers did to Pat Mahomes last season in the super bowl, they have improved their offensive line since then with 4 new starters but one way to get him out of rhythm is by bringing constant pressure.
Now, the good news for Watt and the rest of the primary is that Mahomes ranks 27th in the league at average time to throw per next gen stats. This isn’t necessarily a weakness for Patty, because it is largely due to his ability to extend plays and find guys getting separation.
The problem in my humble opinion is that often times it appears he and the rest of the Chiefs offence are trying to do to much. They began the season 3-4 because most of the league figured out how to beat their hero ball style of play.
If they are to have any hope against this team, the way they do that is sticking to what they are good at and getting Mahomes on the hurry up all day long and make him uncomfortable. Force him to get rid of the ball early and often.
It is undoubtedly a tall task as this Chiefs team is an absolute wagon.
Kansas City Chiefs
Now we pointed out some of their potential holes in their concept, what does this team do well though? Well, they make big plays that go for huge chunks more than anyone except the Bengals and they consistently do it on money downs.
Mahomes has a QBR of 98.5 this season, a completion percentage of 66.1 and 37 touchdowns. After coming out of the gate slow and turning the ball over for what seemed like every drive, the dude has finished exceptionally strong and is playing out of his mind at the moment.
They are coming off a loss in what was a thrilling game against the Bengals which came down to whoever had the ball last essentially, and they just didn’t have an answer for Chase.
The Steelers do not possess that kind of weapon, nothing against Johnson and Claypool but the Bengals pass heavy attack is far stronger and therefore this game plan for the Chiefs is less of a challenge.

4* Free Week 13 NFL Betting Prediction: Steelers +12.5
Call me crazy, I just think this is far too many points in a playoff game with Tomlin and Ben. The Chiefs pass rush is not great, and Ben is 1st in the league at time to throw per those same next gen stats we referenced earlier with 2.38. They also have a stud rookie running back in Najee Harris who can extend drives all on his own.
I think the Chiefs will win this game but I like the Steelers to cover their points here. Root for Big Ben with me ladies and gents!
Best of luck to you in super wild card weekend and let’s have some fun.
