The Browns will be hosting the Steelers to finish out their regular season this Sunday at FirstEnergy Stadium. The Browns are still trying to secure themselves a playoff spot and need a victory over the Steelers to do so. While the Steelers have already locked themselves into either the two or three seed in the playoffs depending on how things shake out.
Pittsburgh Steelers
Mike Tomlin announced on Tuesday that Ben Rothlisberger will be resting in this game to get ready for the playoffs. That leaves Mason Rudolph to get the start for the Burgh against the Browns. With a win over Cleveland and a Bills loss, it would sure up the #2 seed for the Steelers if the Bills are to win though Pittsburgh will remain the #3 seed heading into the playoffs.
Mason Rudolph will be making his first start this season and his first start since week 16 when he lost to the Jets. Rudolph has a career completion percentage of 62.2% and has a 14:8 TD to INT ratio in eight starts in his career.
Diontae Johnson and rookie Chase Claypool have combined for 1,600 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns while JuJu Smith-Schuster leads the team with 91 receptions. However, the Steelers do lead the league in dropped passes and really need to do a better job of securing the ball if they want to go far in the playoffs. The Pittsburgh ground game is averaging 84.3 yards per contest which is last in the NFL. James Conner leads the team in rushing yards with 683 yards and has six touchdowns.
Defensively, Pittsburgh is allowing 19.2 points which is second-best in the NFL, and 302.3 yards per game. Minkah Fitzpatrick leads the Steelers with 74 tackles and TJ Watt headlines the team in sacks with 15.0.
Cleveland Browns
The Cleveland Browns will advance to the playoffs for the first time since 2002 with a victory here. Kevin Stefanski has achieved the best record for the Browns at 10-5 since 2007 and has a chance to tie the 1994 Browns for the best record since 1986. The Cleveland Browns have won five of their last seven home games.
Baker Mayfield is having a fantastic season with Stefanski as his new play-caller. Baker is completing 62.7 percent of his passes for 3,367 yards, 25 touchdowns, and just eight interceptions. Mayfield has 10 touchdown passes in his last five games compared to just one interception. He has done a great job of making the right plays and not turning over the ball, keeping his team in a position to be in every game.
Kevin Stefanski is hopeful that his wide receiver core will be back for this game after being forced to sit with COVID-19 close contact issues. Landry and Rashad Higgins highlight the receiver room for Cleveland as they have combined 1,333 receiving yards and seven touchdowns this season.
The Browns ground game is averaging 145.5 yards per contest, and Nick Chubb leads the way with 959 yards and 11 touchdowns.
On defense, Cleveland is surrendering 26.5 points per game which ranks 21st in the league. They are allowing 356.1 total yards per game with 112.5 of those yards coming on the ground and 243.5 of those coming through the air.
