Apparently, the Raiders can still make the playoffs. The Steelers lost to the Jets in Week 16 and Oakland beat the Chargers, setting up a scenario that goes deep into the section in the NFL rulebook concerning playoff tiebreakers (read more on that below).

The Denver Broncos can not. They go into this game as nothing more than a rogue spoiler but they are 3–1 with Drew Lock at the helm and Vegas has tabbed him the favorite in this game.
Oakland Raiders
Oakland’s 24–17 win over the Chargers completed the season sweep of the AFC’s Los Angeles franchise and gave it a chance.
Derek Carr went twenty-six of thirty for 291 and a touchdown pass to Hunter Renfrow, who got back to looking like his old formidable self with seven catches for 107 yards.
The win not only gives Oakland a chance to finish the regular season .500, which would be a solid performance from Jon Gruden and his team, given the drama of the offseason, it not only gives it a chance play a meaningful game for its fans in Week 17, it gives it a chance to sneak into the AFC playoffs.
Because Pittsburgh lost on Sunday in a game the offense mustered just ten points, both they and the Raiders could finish 8–8 and tied for the final playoff spot.
Now, that only happens in Oakland wins this game and Pittsburgh loses but the Steelers are in Baltimore, which needs a win to guarantee itself the top seed and home field advantage throughout the AFC playoffs.
If two teams are tied in a wild card scenario, the first breaker is head-to-head record. The Raiders and Steelers haven’t played this season.
The next breaker is win-loss record inside the conference. At the moment, Pittsburgh is 6–5 and Oakland is 5–6 but obviously the Raiders would make up the difference if they were to beat Denver and Pittsburgh were to lose to Baltimore.
That takes us to the third breaker, which is the best record against common opponents (with a minimum of four shared opponents). Both teams were 2–0 against an opponent the other was 1–0; Pittsburgh beat Cincinnati twice and Oakland beat it once; and Oakland beat the Chargers twice and Pittsburgh beat it once. Both teams beat Indianapolis and lost to the Jets.
Identical 4–1 records mean we go to “strength of victory,” which is the cumulative record season opponents. This, Oakland could win, depending on how a whole host of games go on Sunday because no less than half the NFL is involved.
Denver Broncos
Pittsburgh has to play Baltimore at 1 pm so it starts with a Steeler loss. If that happens, the late games get a little crazy with this one and San Francisco at Seattle for the NFC West crown.
Who would have it any other way? And who would have thought so many eyes would be on Drew Lock in Week 17?
He’s been all right, at least where it matters most: the record and turnovers. In four starts, he’s 3–1 (the loss at Kansas City was dreadful, however) and has thrown more touchdowns than turnovers in all three of the wins.
In Week 16, he went twenty-five for thirty-three for just 192 yards but the threw a touchdown to someone other than Courtland Sutton. DaeSean Hamilton, a fourth round pick in 2018, came down with the first score of his season in a 27–17 victory over the Lions.
