Jets vs. Titans Gameday
The 2026 NFL regular season kicks off with the New York Jets visiting the Tennessee Titans at Nissan Stadium. This Week 1 matchup is set for Sunday, September 13 at 1:00 PM ET on CBS, giving Aaron Glenn’s Jets an immediate road test against a familiar face.
New York enters Glenn’s second season after going 3-14 in 2025. Frank Reich takes over as offensive coordinator, Brian Duker runs the defense, and veteran Geno Smith is back with the franchise that originally drafted him in 2013.
Robert Saleh’s first regular-season game with Tennessee comes against the team he once coached.
The Titans also finished 3-14 last season, but Saleh arrives with a new staff and second-year quarterback Cam Ward to build around. Brian Daboll takes over the offense after Ward endured an uneven rookie season, while Gus Bradley is charged with improving a defense that allowed 28.1 points per game.
Both clubs used August to work through those changes.
The Jets finished the preseason 1-2, while Tennessee went 2-1 with victories over San Francisco and Seattle before losing its finale to Chicago. Recent meetings have leaned toward New York, but the bigger Week 1 storyline is two three-win teams trying to show that their offseason overhauls have moved them forward.

New York Jets vs. Tennessee Titans Odds & Last 5
Tennessee enters the opener as a slight home favorite, with the Titans laying 1.5 points and sitting around -125 on the moneyline. New York is getting +1.5 at roughly +105 to +110 on the moneyline, while the total has settled around a low 39.5 points.
The Jets have won the last three meetings in this series. New York beat Tennessee 24-17 at Nissan Stadium in September 2024 after winning 27-24 in overtime in 2021 and 16-13 in 2019.
Tennessee’s last victory over the Jets came in 2018.
That game ended 26-22, with the Titans overcoming a 16-point deficit in the second half. The recent series has generally been competitive, with three of the last four meetings decided by seven points or fewer.
New York finished this preseason 1-2, with its victory coming 17-0 against Pittsburgh. Tennessee went 2-1, beating San Francisco 19-13 and Seattle 19-16 before closing August with a 24-15 loss against Chicago.
Titans Stats From Last Season
Tennessee enters 2026 trying to climb out of a 3-14 season that produced problems on both sides of the ball. The Titans averaged 16.7 points and 259.6 total yards per game, ranking 30th in scoring and 31st in total offense.
The passing game generated 3,169 yards from Ward, but Tennessee finished near the bottom of the league in several offensive categories. Ward completed 59.8% of his passes with 15 touchdowns and seven interceptions while being sacked 55 times.
Keeping him upright is one of Daboll’s biggest jobs.
Defensively, Tennessee allowed 28.1 points per game and surrendered 5,867 total yards over 17 games. The Titans did generate 42 sacks, but opponents repeatedly found ways to turn drives into points against a defense that spent too much time protecting an offense unable to sustain production.
Saleh and Bradley now get the opportunity to reshape that unit.
Tennessee added several familiar defensive pieces during the offseason, including former Jets Jermaine Johnson II, John Franklin-Myers, Solomon Thomas and Tony Adams. Ward also has a reworked supporting cast as he begins his second season in a new offensive system under Daboll.
The Titans went 2-1 during the preseason, winning their first two games before falling to Chicago. Ward’s development remains the central issue after a rookie season in which he showed better efficiency late but still finished with an 80.2 passer rating.

Jets Stats From Last Season
New York is also coming off a 3-14 season, and the offense never found enough consistency to keep the Jets competitive. They averaged 17.6 points per game, ranking 29th, while their passing attack finished at the bottom of the NFL.
The Jets produced only 140.3 passing yards per game and finished with 300 points for the season. They were better on the ground, where Breece Hall remained the centerpiece of an offense that too often had to operate without a dependable passing threat.
The defense had its own problems.
New York allowed 29.6 points per game, ranking 31st, and gave up 139.5 rushing yards per contest. The Jets were more respectable against the pass from a yardage standpoint, but remarkably finished the entire season without recording an interception.
That explains why Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey made major changes.
Smith was acquired from Las Vegas to stabilize quarterback, while Demario Davis and Minkah Fitzpatrick were among the veteran additions on defense. Glenn has also taken over defensive play-calling duties, with Duker coordinating a unit that could feature several new starters.
New York finished the preseason 1-2, but Smith gave the offense an encouraging glimpse in the win over Pittsburgh by completing all seven of his passes on the opening touchdown drive. The Jets now hope Reich can get more from a group featuring Hall, Garrett Wilson and a young offensive line.

Jets vs. Titans QB Matchup
Cam Ward enters his second season as Tennessee’s unquestioned starter after playing all 17 games as a rookie. The former No. 1 overall pick completed 323 of 540 passes for 3,169 yards, 15 touchdowns and seven interceptions while adding 159 yards and two scores on the ground.
Those numbers only tell part of the story. Ward was sacked 55 times behind an offense that struggled to protect him, and Daboll was brought in to help accelerate his development after Tennessee finished 30th in scoring.
New York counters with a much more experienced quarterback.
Smith returns to the Jets after spending last season with Las Vegas, where he completed 67.4% of his passes for 3,025 yards and 19 touchdowns. His 17 interceptions were a problem, but the Jets are betting that a reunion with the franchise can give their offense the stability it lacked last season.
Reich also gives Smith an experienced offensive voice.
The Jets have Hall and Wilson around him, while Tennessee is asking Ward to take a sizable Year 2 step in Daboll’s system. Smith owns the experience advantage, but Ward has the benefit of opening at home as Tennessee tries to establish a new identity under Saleh.

Here is my Jets Titans free pick: I’m laying the 1.5 points with Tennessee at home.
This isn’t a spot where I need the Titans to suddenly look like a finished product. Tennessee won only three games last season, but Cam Ward now gets Brian Daboll running the offense after throwing for 3,169 yards with 15 touchdowns and only seven interceptions as a rookie.
The matchup also gives Ward a chance to attack a Jets defense that allowed 29.6 points per game last season. New York made plenty of changes, but I’m willing to make them prove those changes work before backing them on the road.
At this number, a field-goal win is plenty for Tennessee to get there.
Geno Smith certainly gives the Jets more experience at quarterback, but his 2025 season wasn’t clean. He threw 17 interceptions with Las Vegas, and now he’s learning Frank Reich’s offense while facing a Titans defense being rebuilt by Robert Saleh and Gus Bradley.
I also like the setup for Ward in Year 2. Tennessee was 30th in scoring last season, so there is obvious room for Daboll to squeeze more out of an offense that doesn’t need a dramatic jump to win this matchup.
This feels more like a tight opener than a statement game. Home field and the short number are enough for me.
I’ll lay the 1.5 with Tennessee.
