This matchup features a very good New Orleans offense against a touch Kansas City defense.
Kick off is set for 1:00 PM ET with QB Drew Brees getting the start for the Saints with Alex Smith opposing him.
New Orleans Saints
Drew Brees is one of the greatest quarterbacks to step onto the field, and he has started off this season really strong. In the win against the Panthers he came up huge with 465 yards passing and 4 touchdowns.
He faces a much tougher secondary in Kansas City, as Eric Berry and company will look to shut down the short and intermediate game New Orleans does so well.
Mark Ingram struggled against the Panthers last week. While he has become a threat receiving the ball out of the backfield last week he only had 3 catches for 9 yards.
This week I expect Brees to find him early keep the Chiefs defense honest, and not focus on solely stopping the passing attack. Expect Ingram to have his first breakout game of the year and have over 100 yards rushing with 2 scores.
If you want to get a receiver out of a slump, have them face the Panthers.
After having an up and down season so far Cooks came alive against Carolina. He torched the rookie corners the Panthers have for 9 catches, 173 yards and a score on Sunday.
This week the Kansas City secondary has a speedster in All Pro safety Eric Berry, so I’m looking for Cooks to have a pedestrian game with 5 catches for 60 yards without finding the end zone.
The Saints defense has given up at least 30 points in 3 straight games.
A roster not known for shutting people down should have another tough game going up against an effective game manager in Alex Smith and a good running game.
Kansas City Chiefs
Alex smith has been efficient this year. He isn’t asked to throw the ball downfield at all, and he has only 5 touchdown passes on the season.
He is going up against the Saints defense known for not stopping anyone, so I expect him to throw 2 touchdowns in this one.
The chiefs do their most damage running the ball.
The 1-2 combination of Pro Bowler Jamaal Charles and Spencer Ware will cause issues for the Saints front seven.
With Charles slowly returning from an injury expect Ware to get the bulk of the carries in the middle of the field, while Charles will use his speed and elusiveness to handle the ball in the red zone.
I’m expecting a touchdown from each back this week.
Jeremy Maclin has been up and down for the Chiefs this season.
Last week he had 3 catches for 49 yards against the Raiders but failed to score.
This week he faces a New Orleans secondary known for giving up the deep ball, so look for him to have his first 100 yard receiving game of the year and grab a score.
