This week 17 match-up will see the New Orleans Saints take on the Carolina Panthers. This will be a battle between two teams from the NFC South.

The Saints won their second game in a row this past Sunday against the Tennessee Titans. In the game, New Orleans dug themselves a 14-0 hole in the first quarter but quickly rebounded by outscoring the Titans 38-14 from the second quarter on. The Saints are still trying to lock up the number two seed, so they should be trying to win this game with full effort.

The Saints defense was able to step up in a big way after a shaky first quarter against Tennessee. New Orleans now allows an average of 333.3 yards per game, which ranks 12th. They have had struggles defending the pass, allowing 238.7 yards per game. However, against the run, they are a top 5 team and are allowing an average of 94.7 yards per game.
Carolina Panthers
The Panthers season has turned into a disaster after looking promising early on. They have now lost seven games in a row with their last loss coming against the Indianapolis Colts. The final score against the Colts was 38-6.
Because the Panthers have been so bad, they decided to start Will Grier this past week. Grier had about the worst debut, throwing three interceptions. He went 27 of 44 in this game and had 227 yards. Christian McCaffrey can only do so much when he receives no blocking, so the Panthers really can only go as far as he takes them.
Carolina has one of the worst defenses in the league as shown by their performance against the Colts. They are ranked 31st in scoring defense, allowing 28.5 points per game. They are also 31st against the run, allowing 145.4 yards per game.
The only hope for the Panthers in this game is their ability to defend the pass. Overall, they rank 13th in pass defense. However, going up against Drew Brees is a different animal and they must find a way to slow him down to salvage any kind of win to close out the year.
