There is nothing at stake for Falcons in this one. For New Orleans, if they win and the 49ers lose they are in. The games are on simultaneously so they will be scoreboard watching while trying to avoid a loss on Sunday.
New Orleans Saints
This has definitely been a challenging season for the Saints. Replacing Drew Brees was never going to be easy but they have had so much churn at QB this season due to injury it is amazing they are in the position they are in.
It just goes to show that even in an era where offense seems to rule a strong defense is still a pretty valuable thing. New Orleans is 4th in points allowed this season and it is the stop unit that has kept their season alive.
To win and potentially advance though guys like Taysom Hill and Alvin Kamara are going to have to perform on Sunday. Scoring more than the 20ppg they are averaging will make things a lot less tense.
The Saints need a win and they are looking to avenge a 27-25 loss to Atlanta earlier in the season. That game was a wild one as they came back from a 24-6 deficit in the fourth quarter to take the lead, only to lose on a last-second field goal.
Atlanta Falcons
Atlanta has been eliminated from the playoffs. They have had a whirlwind of a year too, losing top receiver Calving Ridley midway through the season, as he stepped away from the game.
The primary positive for the year has been the play of rookie TE Kyle Pitts. He has emerged as s big-play threat even if he has only gotten into the end zone one time this season.
That has been a challenge for the whole team this year. QB Matt Ryan is not the problem but the offense is just not dynamic enough to score regularly. Atlanta averages only 18ppg.
With a defense giving up an average of 27ppg that is not going to cut it. It is actually impressive that they have won 7 games this season. I would not have bet on that before the year started.

4* Free Week 17 NFL Betting Prediction: Saints -4.5
It is hard to have a ton of confidence in either team but New Orleans feels like the more trustworthy unit. The only reason to maybe look at the Falcons closely is that they beat New Orleans earlier in the year, the only win they had against a winning team all season.
The New Orleans defense is going to be the best unit on the field and the Saints have some momentum off last week’s win, a game they had to have. Atlanta would be in a similar spot if they had beaten Buffalo last week, even if that would have been a major long shot.
Would love to have a smaller spread here and I am little worried about whether the 49ers game could influence this game if it looks obvious they are going to win. I like the Saints to win by a full TD and am focusing on that, not all the surrounding stuff. You can drive yourself crazy. They are the better team and they need the game.
