The Patriots drew first blood when they beat the Bills in Buffalo on a super windy Monday night. Since that time though the Bills have been the better team, taking the AFC East for the second season in a row.
New England lost their final game of the season but it was of little consequence as they could not improve their position in the playoffs. They are in but there is definitely a sense this team peaked early.
Buffalo will be highly motivated to show the Pats who the best team in the division as they try and match last year’s run to the AFC Championship Game and beyond.
New England Patriots
Bill Belichick is probably the greatest coach in NFL history so it should be no surprise that he has rapidly improved the Patriots after last season. They might be the most improved team in the league.
That does not change the fact that this team has a ceiling, thanks to an offense that is not very explosive. QB Mac Jones is going to have to play mistake-free football for the Pats to have a chance to win and they are going to probably have to rush for more than 150 yards.
New England has been one of the best defensive teams in the NFL all season long. They are 2nd in points allowed, 3rd in takeaway and 4th in yards. That said, you can argue that the wins did a better job defending opposing QB Josh Allen than the Pats did in 2 games this season.
New England never rolls over, you have to beat them. It has been a while since we saw them as an underdog in the playoffs but that role is well justified this season.
Buffalo Bills
The Bills did not have the regular season most were expecting. Nevertheless they are in the playoffs and I think most would agree that their best game is good enough to beat anyone in the league.
Josh Allen had a better season ago but he seems primed to lead the team so playoff success again. Given that this is a familiar opponent and a great coach this might be the toughest playoff game the Bills could have.
The defense finished the season tops in points and yards allowed. They were best against the pass but they know they have to be able to stop the run to win on Saturday night. That has been a challenge against New England and will likely determine whether this game is close or a runaway win for the Bills.
Look for Buffalo to also run the ball more than they did during the regular season. RB Devin Singletary finished strong and that is one of the ways to maximize the unique talents of Allen. In the playoffs, there is no tomorrow.
NFL Betting Trends:
- Patriots are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games after accumulating more than 350 total yards in their previous game.
- Patriots are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 playoff road games.
- Patriots are 18-5 ATS in their last 23 games on turf.
- Bills are 6-1-1 ATS in their last 8 vs. AFC East.
- Bills are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games after accumulating more than 350 total yards in their previous game.
- Bills are 11-3-2 ATS in their last 16 games after allowing less than 150 yards passing in their previous game.
4* Free Week 13 NFL Betting Prediction: Buffalo -4.5
It is probably going to be cold on Saturday night but both teams are used to that. Unless it is super windy again I think you can throw out what we saw in that wild Monday Night game.
Buffalo is the better team, provided they are solid against the run. They do not have to completely shutdown the Pats but they need to make Mac Jones a factor, for better or worse.
Allen vs. Jones is a major advantage for Buffalo. Allen is more talented, more experienced and even though he is from California, he seems love to mix it up in the bad weather.
This number is kind of dead but a decent value because I don’t think the Bills are going to need to win it late. I am looking for a game thy are in control of throughout. A lot like the one we saw when these teams met in New England.
I think it holds or comes back a little so you probably don’t have to rush to bet it right away. With COVID and such you never know.
