Week 14 will feature a game with NFC Wild Card implications in Tampa Bay.
The Vikings survived the Jaguars on Sunday to get to .500 with six wins and six losses.
The Bucs lost their Wild Card lead after the Rams won while Tampa was idle. They are still a game up on the field with a chance to make it two, on Minnesota at least.
Minnesota Vikings
The Vikings got down early against Jacksonville, in part due to a terribly unlucky tipped ball that resulted in the first touchdown of the game for the Jags.
They clawed back for a lead in the second half but couldn’t hold it in the fourth quarter. They did prevail in overtime, however, when on their second possession of the extra period, Dan Bailey kicked the short, game-winning field goal.
Kirk Cousins finished 28-of-43 for 305 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. One of those three TD tosses went to Adam Thielen, who returned from the Covid-19 list to haul in eight passes for 75 yards.
But Thielen again played second fiddle to the spectacular rookie Justin Jefferson, who finished with nine catches for 121 yards and a touchdown of his own to eclipse 1000 yards on the season.
Dalvin Cook once again was a workhorse, carrying the ball 32 times for 120 yards. He caught another six for 59 yards with his backup, Alexander Mattison out with injury.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Tampa Bay and Carolina had to wait longer than any other team to reach their bye week but now they will enjoy some extra rest at a point in the season when most teams are starting to feel fatigued.
For the Bucs, the bye comes after consecutive losses (by three points each to the Rams and Chiefs) and three losses in their last four.
You get the sense Tampa Bay has not yet played its best football, or at least has not played as well as it is capable yet this season.
There are still plenty of moving parts, especially in the receiving corps with Antonio Brown having played in only four games and Chris Godwin being in and out of the lineup.
Well, Godwin has been practicing in full and Brown should benefit from some extra work with his team during these two weeks of practice to prepare for Minnesota.
It’s been a while since the Vikings gave up a 300-yard passing game to the opposing quarterback (Matt Ryan in Week 6) but they have been on a run of dud quarterbacks.
They have not faced a QB worth mentioning since Aaron Rodgers in Week 8. Brady and company certainly represent the biggest test they will have faced since then.

4* Free NFL Betting Prediction: Tampa Bay wins and covers.
I’m skeptical of how well this Minnesota offense will move the ball against the Tampa defense, which has proven to be a bit feast-or-famine.
So give me the Bucs coming out of the bye to win and cover at home to secure a Wild Card spot.
