This game is meaningless at this point. Minnesota had a shot to make the playoffs but squandered it over the last couple of weeks.
Detroit has been playing out the string for weeks already. Weirdly they have just one home win on the season.
Even though there is nothing at stake I was surprised to see the Vikings as such solid favorites in this spot.
The seat has to be getting a little warm for Mike Zimmer in Minnesota. Three weeks ago the Vikings were 6-6 with a reasonable shot at the playoffs. Now they are 6-9 thanks to losses at home to Chicago and on the road Tampa and New Orleans. None of those are terrible but they were not competitive in them for the most part.
As they prepare to close the season it will have been a waste of a fantastic performance from running back Dalvin Cook. I say waste because he had the best season of his career and running backs seem to lose the tread on their tires pretty quickly.
Justin Jefferson has emerged as a rising star at receiver. He could easily be the offensive rookie of the year due to his leading the team in catches and yards.
Those offensive performances have not been enough to overcome a defense that has been shredded time and again throughout the season. They gave up a season-high 52 points to New Orleans last week.
A win could give the team a little peace but there might be some big changes coming regardless.
Another lost season in Detroit, though I am not sure any expectations above these actual results were reasonable.
They have already fired the coach and now there are rumors it might be time to move on from QB Matt Stafford too. He did not play terribly, nor was he as good as some thought he might be after last year’s terrific half season.
There is no way to get away from the fact that the Lions have given up more points than any team in the league, an average of 32ppg. That has to be an offseason priority.
So has to be an offense that was 30th in the league in rushing. They did not even average 100ypg and that was after investing in D’Andre Swift with their top pick.
The injury list is super long this week and even Stafford is on it. Can the Lions mount one final offensive just to show they have a little energy left in them?

4* Free NFL Betting Prediction: Vikings -6.5
I don’t want to back the Vikings after what we have seen from them lately but health is on their side. Assuming they are professional in their effort they should be able move the ball and score enough to get a final win and some extra ounces of respectability. No big bets here though, these games can go a million ways.
