When it comes to the playoffs I don’t mind a rematch of games we have seen from the regular season. Keeping it in the division makes it even more fun.
These team split their season series with each winning at home. Not a lot to go on there. Both games were low scoring.
The key thing is the health of Jared Goff. I think these numbers say he is going to play. The question is how effectively.
Los Angeles Rams
The Rams closed the season with Goff on the sidelines but still got the win they needed over Arizona. That is primarily thanks to a defense that finished tops in the league in points and total yards allowed.
Aaron Donald has long been considered one of the best defensive players in the league, a truly disruptive force. The Rams have surrounded him with enough talent that you double him at your own risk.
In two games against the Seahawks, the Rams only gave up 36 points. That is right at their season average of 18ppg allowed. If they can do that again on Saturday, they just might advance.
Goff’s health is going to be critical. The Rams want to run the ball so they can be balanced offensively. John Wolford does not have much experience and they will be asking a lot of him if they hand him the ball. He was not great last week.
Also hurting the Rams offense is the status of Cooper Kupp. It is unclear whether he plays on Saturday or not.
Seattle Seahawks
Seattle won the NFC West by a couple of games this season. I know many are saying that home field is not the advantage it once was but the Seahawks were 7-1 at home this season.
After a super hot start, the Seahawks offense slowed over the second half. Russell Wilson is not a guy you want to get against in the playoffs though.
I love the tough running of Chris Carson and the duo of DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett at receiver. If the Rams can’t get pressure on Wilson both should have big days.
The Seattle defense is not what it was during the heydays of the Legion of Boom. Still, they are above the league average and that is more than good enough against L.A., especially if Goff is out.
Safety Jamal Adams might be the best player on that defense. He is noted on the injury list but is probable. He can wreck an offense with his diverse playmaking abilities.

Though it looks like the number includes Goff being on the field I don’t see how you can make a bet on the Rams without knowing how he is going to hold up. Even if he were perfectly healthy, I would still lean to the Seahawks to get it done. Russ is good in big moments and he can create enough explosive plays to keep them separated enough and the pressure on the Rams to score more than I think they will be able to.
